DWISNWID

Scripting News Annex » Scripting News for 4/24/2006:

Disclaim: Scripting News does not meet the high standards of 120-day blogger Guy Kawasaki.

Ok, let's tally it up:

In contrast to BigPub BigJournos, Dave is a passionate amateur and a domain expert.

In contrast to Dave, Guy Kawasaki is just an amateur who has no call criticizing an "early blogger." I mean, Jesus, how dare he, he's only been blogging 4 months!

Some bloggers are more citizens than others, I guess.

Feedbagged.

Krzysztof Kowalczyk weblog:

Bloglines has its problems and Newsgator, overall, looks nice, but the slow speed of switching to another feed is a deal-breaker.

This could be a problem for me down the line, since the imminent release of NNW 2.1 will move from Bloglines sync to Newsgator. I've been very happy with the Bloglines sync in NNW. It's enabled me to keep my reading (currently 558 feeds) synced up between my Treo, a few various desktops, and the web. The 2.1 betas are still syncing my Bloglines subs, and AFAIK there's no reason they couldn't continue to do so - the feed url points into Bloglines, and unless there's other stuff under the hood, it should still work. What could go away, though, would be the ability to import new subs into NNW from Bloglines. Though one thing that has been painful is the complicated dance to subscribe from Firefox - use Bloglines Toolkit to subscribe to a blog, switch to NNW, open the Special Subscription-> Bloglines menu item, download the new subs, select and import. Clumsy. As to the Newsgator switch, I imagine there'd be some sort of reasonably painless migration process, but reports like this aren't making me too happy.

Ba DOOMP.

BuzzMachine » Blog Archive » Smoking guns?:

: UPDATE: I’ve corrected and clarified this — belatedly and for that I apologize and offer the excuse of being on buses with 400 8th graders for the last two days — but the punchline remains the same.

Don't give up your day job.

What Do I Know - Boot Camp:

But at a very basic level, the fact that I have two operating systems available on one laptop is just incredible. You simply hold down the Option key at startup, pick which operating system you want to use, and you're up and running in seconds. No emulation or sub-par performance. Both run natively and at full speed.

Todd Dominey has always had a faint whiff of Macfundie about him, but this is too much. OMG. It is incroy-AH-bluh that the supernova design minds at Apple have produced a -- like, you're not gonna bleeve this -- boot loader. Good Lord, how could anyone not have thought of this before. It reminds me of all those "BBEdit is so teh editbomb!" commenters who think it so rad because it uses like regular expressions and shit. I love Macs, but this fanboy gush stuff is teh worst.
