why do you hate America so much?

Hilarious Tom Tomorrow on Salon. I don't like war. I don't like the fact that I can't choose to not fund it, and it makes me very nervous when dissent gets called anti-Americanism. Nobody tells me what to think. Period.

I'll tell you why I hate America so much! I have always found the nation to be generally ignorant of anything outside the place, however I did visit the country and found it to a lovely experience. This has all changed since their immature attitude in regards to 11/9 (and that's 11/9 not 9/11). The events that occured were totally awful and I was more upset about it than anyone that I know, however, the response to this attack made me research deeper into the causes and previous provocation by the USA and I was deeply unhappy to realise that the USA are the biggest terrorists in the world, however they cannot see that. I stress again, I hated seeing USA being attacked. BUT, Blowing up innocent Afghanis with bombs that say "this is for NYDP"... NOT Maturity USA. OH but you have all the cards, and governments such as mine (Australia) are too piss weak to tell you that you are wrong (while you totally mess up our trade situation). I'd rather be killed by you than lick your arse!!!! OPEN YOUR EYES!!!

Americans are too arrogant

Like the Germans in World War 2. It is scary!

Your president has killed over 200 people as governor of Texas, and he never showed sorrow for this revengeful behaviour. Is that what you call civilization?

Mr. Bush divides the world in "good guys" and "bad guys" and he imagines himself belonging to the good guys, but i wonder how God feels about that...

Why do you think America is the biggest terrorist in the world? When war happens there are going to be accidents. And Why when anything bad happens America gets blaimed? The U.N. bombs somthing or raids a building "THOSE DAMN AMERICANS"!! NATO bombs a city "THOSE DAMN AMERICANS"!! Yea your saying those damn americans because when theres an operation going down were right in the middle of it because We are the only country that has the Balls to do anything about it. When someone needs help who do they ask first AMERICA, when they need food who do they ask? America! When they need money who do they ask? AMERICA. We help all we can. And the reason we are in everybodys business is because as soon as we step out, All hell will break loose. Everybody will start fighting and all that crap and who will have to come and break up the little children? America. So you know what I have said is true. Every word. This is the best country to live in and I'll be damed if anybody is gonna take it from me! All we do is give, give, give and we don't get sh*t So that's all I have to say for now.

God help you all if we decide to stop clowning around and really act like the unstoppable Empire we can be. What are you going to do? Throw the French/Italian/German armies at us?

AHAHAHAAH!! Useless junk manned by worthless draftees!!

Only the UK and Turkey have worthwhile militaries and they are our true allies.

"unstoppable empire"?? I'd love it if America tried. A war against America would be hilarious. If they aimed for Britain they'd probably hit France.

Quote: "Only the UK and Turkey have worthwhile militaries and they are our true allies."

Trust me, my ignorant American. The UK public are not behind US action in Iraq and a recent poll showed that when asked who is a bigger danger to world peace-Bush or Saddam 64% voted Bush. The thing that American's don't seem to realise is that those "pussies" that are "afraid" of doing anything have SEEN WAR! America has not seen War. America sat back and did sod all while over 40,000 British civilians were killed by German bombers, thats at least 15 WTCs. America wouldn't lend Britain and her empire 40 warships as they stood ALONE against the Nazis. The whole of the Commonwealth declared war on germany within a day of Britain's declaration, including both Palestinians and Jews. Thats the Nazis. We aren't talking about some little terror organisation. America doesn't know terrorism. The British have lived with it for years. Was American funding for the IRA stopped? No. The nations of Europe have seen war, invasion, daily air strikes. European nations understand war. America thinks it's just like the movies. Lets remember the last war you went alone on .......Vietnam. No need to say anymore. I could also mention the deaths of British/Australians/Canadians by the trigger happy hands of American "friendly-fire". The fact that you re-write history to present America in a better light. The fact that you butcher the English language. Your corrupt government, the list goes on.

If America was a true Superpower it would be making nations not destroying them. When Britian was the World's superpower it made Australia, America, she civilised half the world. I'm not going to say we didn't do some shitty things because no nation can.

You twisted Brit! America is much nicer than the British Empire ever was. Is civilizing half of the world a nice way of saying you destroyed native culture? Oh yeah, were the Zimbabweans English speaking when you arrived? HA!

Speaking of Africa, just look at that continent and look at what you and your Euro neighbors did to it! Thanks for all of the commercials I have to see requesting 80 cents a day to save a kid's life. And all of those stories of kids living in the streets, drinking their own piss...yadayada. I hate the fact that America is given the burden of cleaning up the mess you started.

It's true that Europe has had to deal with wars more than America. The thing is they were all wars against each other! Perhaps this is why America is a better place to live. America only once went to war with itself AND WE LEARNED OUR LESSON, UNLIKE YOU.

Let's face the facts. The only reason you socialists hate America is because we're the only ones who figured out how to succeed. America used it's instincts and is currently the wealthiest nation on the planet. Now all of you losers are so dumb that the best way you know how to become less poor is to demand that America share it's wealth. And when America doesn't they call us greedy, self centered, and then burn the flag when in reality it's those poor loser idiots who played a big roll in getting poverty by not trying. America looks at them and sais, "We didn't need a 5 billion dollar donation to become wealthy. WHY CAN'T YOU? But for any lazy Africans reading who want a more appropriate scapegoat, please move your finger of blame from the northwest to the north where it belongs.

EXPERIENCE TEACHES THAT, OF ALL THE EMOTIONS, FEAR STANDS ALONE IN ITS POWER TO MOVE US, OR TO CAPTURE US IN ITS GRIP FOREVER. IN A WORLD OF TERRORS, THERE IS NOTHING MORE FEARSOME THAT THE UNKNOWN...ESPECIALLY WHEN WHAT IS UNKNOWN IS OURSELVES IT WAS ONCE WRITTEN, "TO THINE OWN SELF BE TRUE". BUT HOW DO WE KNOW WHO WE REALLY ARE? EVERY MAN MUST CONFRONT THE MONSTER WITHIN HIMSELF, IF HE IS EVER TO FIND PEACE WITHOUT.

THEY SAY A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS A DANGEROUS THING. BUT WHAT OF THE MAN WHO POSSESSES TOO MUCH KNOWLEDGE? IF KNOWLEDGE IS POWER...AND POWER CORRUPTS...HOW WILL HUMANKIND EVER SURVIVE?

OUR MOST POWERFUL INSTINCT IS SELF-PRESERVATION. BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN FEAR AND MISTRUST TWIST THE DRIVE INTO A FORCE MORE DESTRUCTIVE THAN ANY OUTSIDE ENEMY...IT IS ONE OF THE GREAT MYSTERIES OF EXISTENCE, HOW THE SMALLEST DROP OF UNDERSTANDING CAN CLEANSE A SEA OF MISTRUST AND HATE... IT IS ONLY HUMAN TO DREAM OF RISING ABOVE ONE'S LIMITATIONS... BUT WHAT IF WE HAD THE POWER TO INSTANTLY ACQUIRE THE QUALITIES THAT WE ENVY IN OTHERS? WOULD IT BRING REAL FULFILLMENT... OR A HUNGER THAT CAN NEVER BE FILLED? HOW EASILY WE SCORN WHAT FATE HAS DEALT US AND DREAM OF WHAT IT HAS NOT... BEFORE WE CAST ASIDE OUR LOTS, IT WOULD BE WISE TO REMEMBER -- THAT DREAMS HAVE A WAY OF TURNING INTO NIGHTMARES

The british empire sent its gun ships round to china because they wouldnt buy our pots and pans.

maybe america just need to grow up.

Seems that the world could be so busy thinking about the problem that they completely miss the solution when it arives. To busy arguing to lisen to some one with the solution.

Seems the world could be so busy arguing about the problem that when some one arrives with the solution nobody takes any notice.

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

Seriously though. I had a run-in with a middle-aged English couple recently here in Houston. I was at the bar in a hotel and they were seated next to me. I heard them talking and, realizing they were from another country, I decided to be friendly. I turned to the gentleman and asked where they were from. He said said England, or Britain or UK or something like that. I suppose they thought I was expressing my ignorance but it was actually an attempt to make them feel at home by delivering a bit of wry humo(u)r the English are famous for. I asked, "So why do you have an Irish accent?" They were not amused.

I want to point something out with all of this talk of war with Iraq. America wants to create, but to plant a flower in that pot of dirt you need to first take out the weed that is causing havoc.

I noticed something not too long ago. There is some criticism over the idea of removing the dictator who just so happens to be on the 2nd largest source of oil in the world. They are saying America is acting against its principals in wanting to remove one dictor while there are many others (like those terrible Saudis!) So I want to share with you a discussion between a compationate American and a twisted European. They're debating the question of buying oil from dictators.

TWISTED EURO: You greedy Americans! All you want to do is buy oil, you sick pigs! That makes the dictator only MORE powerful. What was all that cold-war thing about anyways? I thought you wanted to spread democracy, but all you wanted to do was buy their oil.

COMPATIONATE AMERICAN: All right, let's sanction the bastard (like we did to Iraq) that will make him lose some power.

TWISTED EURO: You inhumane bastards!!! Just think of all of those poor innocent citizens who will suffer because you are going after ONE man. How could you think of something as evil as that?

COMPATIONATE AMERICAN: Hmmm? (he's beginning to think Europe is a horrid place with people who live to complain) Ok ok, let's kill him AND INSTALL DEMOCRACY, while minimizing the civilians that are surely going to die in the fray because he often uses his own people as human shields.

TWISTED EURO: You ignorant, indifferent, bullying American. Not only do you not care about a nation's soverenty or the people in it, but you are attacking when the nation has shown no sign of aggression and you are doing it because YOU WANT THAT OIL. IT'S IN YOUR INTEREST TO GET THAT OIL--

COMPATIONATE AMERICAN: (thinking of cancelling his summer trip to Europe and growing iritated at his goofy accent) But it would be in everybodies interest to get rid of that man and wanting that oil is a good thing for us AND THEM. If we didn't want their oil, then we couldn't trade with them. Capitalism states: all nations can benefit from trade.

TWISTED EURO: I still think it's immoral for anyone to look so fondly at oil and want it.

COMPATIONATE AMERICAN: Alright! What do you propose we do.

TWISTED EURO: Well, it is your problem to begin with, but I would wait for him to die of cancer and then democracy would magically appear.

COMPATIONATE AMERICAN: But he could build a nuke in one year, do you want to take that risk?

TWISTED EURO: I told you it's your problem, NOT MINE. If he builds a nuke and kills millions of people then we can thank the Americans for not taking action.

Does anyone see the point I'm trying to make?

Why do I hate Europeans? The same reason I hate old people: They stink.

Thank you.

Lately, I can't help but live in fear of what our country is becoming. When I was younger, I had such pride in this nation, The United States of America. But now I realize that the pride wasn't my own. It was that of those who pounded such into my head. Those that made me pledge my allegiance to such a country every day of my life. I question now, though, what this country is and why they were so damn intent on brainwashing me into a pride filled zealot of "Democracy". I hate myself now, because I feel and see truth. The truth is terrible, that it is. I feel darkened because I can almost sympathize with those terrorists that attack my country. I feel sick when I see Bush give another speech about crushing terrorism. When I see our planes dropping bombs on the people of Afghanistan, I hate this country. I hate the government for suppressing people of other nations. Those people of the Middle East, those Iraq people, they are people. They live and breathe and we are going to fly into their home and kill them. "When war happens there are going to be accidents." Yeah, tell that to the mother of a child killed in a bombing. I mean, this country is so disgusting. All we have is money and hate. Why? Why is it we must subjugate the world? Do we ever wonder WHY the terrorists are attacking us? There is a reason for their hatred. They aren't all just a bunch of hateful heathen. Maybe we free citizens of the US are the true hateful heathen. I feel unlimited guilt for just living in this place.

Bush's world scale dictatorship is unacceptable. Blinded by power and ignorance, I strongly believe, if there will be an end to the world, it will be because of america. Look at Canada for example, Bush tries to tell Prime Minister Chretien what he can and can not do. This is entirely unacceptable, bush is extremely cocky and arrogant. They also have Britain on a leash, which is really too bad. People don't hate America for something to do, there's obvious a good reason(s)....

Hook 'em Horns!

Hey Canadian wank, you should just be thankful that Bush doesn't invade Canada and get 10 more states to our union. Practically everybody could kick Canada's ass, not to mention the lone Superpower. Canada sucks! Look at some accomplishment the two of our countries have had:

US accomplishments:

1. First country ever to have a written constitution.

2. First country to declare independance, fight for it, and keep it from the UK.

3. First country in the Americas.

4. We increased the size of our country 5-fold, by either fighting wars or buying land.

5. We dealt with and conquered the issue of slavery.

6. We saved the western world in WW1 by giving military aid when needed and stepping up as communist Russia was stepping down.

7. Saved the Brits and France's asses in WW2 as they were begging for our help.

8. First country to go to the moon.

9. Defeated communism.

10. Created the internet.

11. Have an empire that can only be compared to the Roman empire.

And we have national heros: George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Ulyssis Grant, Roosevelt, George W. Bush. Many of which are on

Now look at the Canadian accomplishments.

1. One of the last countries to declare independance(?) in the Americas. Before then you just sucked up to the Brits. Quotation mark by the declared independance because I don't know if you did or the Brits just said they didn't want you any more.

2. Play more hockey than anyone on earth.

3. The only country with a leaf on its flag.

So why don't you take a good long look at the comparison's between our two countries, and decide which one is better.

What are some of Canada's nation heros? Hmmm, well judging by your Canadian currency, which annoyingly pops up every now and again, one of your heros or heroines is Queen Elizabeth. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Does Canada suck so bad that you have to steal other country's figures just have somebody to put on the currency.

Now that you've read this, choose the correct answer (a, b, c, or d) to fill in the blank.

Canada ____.

a) sucks

b) sucks

c) sucks

d) sucks

I read the posts from the Americans. I some it up with one word. IGNORANCE! You are all morons.

You will be the death of this planet. Your greed will kill us all...yourself included. In the meantime...just continue to pump out the vast amounts of shit you would have the rest of the world believe. We are afraid to say it on the public stage. That is the truth. America has fucked us all!

to andrew mcdonald: you arrogant american bastard!!!!

you talk about LAZY AFRICANS?????????

who the hell u think u are?

it was them you americans captured, enslaved and "brought" to your f***ing country.

and it was also their work, their blood which made the us the rich country it is now, and you are proud of it????

perhaps u should LEARN something about your country.....i did, and now i know about germany´s faaults(faults? the greatest shit in the world´s history; osama bin laden is nothing against hitler, but bush does the same)

read some BOOKS ( u know this? mostly white pages with so called "L-E-T-T-E-R-S" on it, like "stupid white men" from M. Moore...

but u better go to american hell!!!!!!!!!

To dude;

You're so fucking stupid, idiot!!!

Sure your fucin' american army has got all the technology in the world , but the condition of your fat, 200 kilo's (and it's kilo's not fucking pounds!) heavy , hamburger eating, so called soldiers is pathetic.

And so is their courage.

I'm a paratrooper and I've ran against your so called special forces!!!

What a fucking joke!

In twelve laps they all got doubled, every single one of them, by all our troopers!

Oh, and you can have your english army and shove it up your ass, but I wouldn't count on Turkish support to much if i were you( thank God I'm not !!!).

To dood aan bush: You think our army doesn't have courage. What a lie. We're so courageous that people at home demonstrate courage at many levels. Do you remember the words "let's roll." You pathetic piece of shit.

You dumb motherf*cker mister "nuke canada" its true canada sucks.... but... your list is totally bogus. Many we were not the first country to have a written constitution, we were not the first country to declare independence and be free from british colonial rule, who cares it we had the first country - the spanish and english were here before the true "american" was(not to mention the indian nation), we stole the land from the indians, who "owned" all of it,we were one of the last civilized nations to get rid of slavery and are still very racist, its true we helped europe in world wars - but should we have?, so we got to the moon - whoopte do, we never defeated communism(look at china - and we help china), we created the internet - but who created the phone?, and our empire as you call it will fall just as hard as the roman empire (we are as fat, as lazy, and as sue happy as they were - which is why it crumbled)

so f*ck you, get your s*it straight, you make us look like a bunch of idiots.... and canada still sucks

Those who blame America for slavery need to get real. America inherited slavery from the British and we fought to get rid of slavery until 1865. Have any of you perfect europeans ever been to St. Lucia or Grenada or Guadeloupe which were British and French slave islands? Brazil was the last country in the Americas to get rid of slavery in the 1880's but of course no one is jealous of Brazil so who cares of course. Oh and BTW Antonio Meucci created the phone not AG Bell so our Canadian friends need to get their facts straight. And to all those in Europe excited over America "falling" on the world stage I think you have it reversed. America thrives by people all over the world who come here by the millions legally to this "terrible" place and illegally ( upwards of 15 million more) who somehow live in this "terrible" place. What does Europe have? Immigration is changing the face of Europe and you are silently being taken over by residents of your former colonies moving there and going on the social programs. Europe will be taken over without a shot being fired within fifty years. I'd quit worrying about the US and look at yourselves. And comments about slaves building the US are incorrect. Slaves worked on agricultural fields in the South not the industrial centers of the northeast US Mr german us hater. But of course the holocaust didn't happen either right? Or the Anschluss? The French and British and Spanish were kiliing natives in the Americas hundreds of years before the US even existed. Funny how Canada killed their native people also, threw the remainder on reservations and took over land all the way to the Pacific as well but somehow gets a pass. Must be the same principle as Brazil with slavery. No ones jealous of Canada so who cares of course.

ignorant, racist, bastards. you want the axis of evil just look at the US. i hope you attack iraq and i hope you loose, all you want is their fucking oil anyway. ya canada does suck but it has nothing on the US. you will fall soon, your reign is coming to an end.

fuck american's, you can all kiss my ass you stupid mother fuckers.

americans didn't drag africans out of africa, africans helped drag eachother out through hatred of rival tribes. slavery in the United States was based mostly in the southern states, and only ten percent of the people who lived there were actually wealthy enough at the time to even own a large plantation with slaves.african americans didn't build americans, people from ALL nations built America, don't blame us if your ancestors didn't think about coming over here the past couple hundred years. i dare anyone by the way to actually have the balls to attack america with their army on land seeing as to how many households have alteast one fire arm, im referring to a gun, in each. canada is probably the most racist nation on the planet anyways, seeing as to how they all hate the french and native americans up there. and as far as the europeans are concerned, if it wasn't for america..all of you would be speaking german as your first language.

Fuck all you European pussies who bash the great country that is the United States of America. All you fucking care about is yourselves. Case in point the French and Germans who protest war against Iraq, hmmm how many fucking oil contracts does France have with Iraq. And to all you German green party pussies and Schroeder supporters go fuck yourselves, we saved your nation from the tryranny of Hitler and built it up through the Marshall plan( never repaid) and kept your Teutonic leaders from destroying Europe twice in both World Wars. Germany and France colonized the fuck out of Africa, and helped create the situation that leads to the southern part of the continent having millions of people dying of aids every year. Yet again the U.S has to bail your sorry asses out by contributing money through Bush's plan that he mentioned in the state of the union. Our country was built on equality and freedoom for every person, opportunity for everyone. Your countries were built on the aristocracy and class, but now have both turned into second rate socialist powers. GOD BLESS AMERICA, GOD BLESS GEORGE W.BUSH, AND MAY AMERICA'S RULE LAST FOREVER

America is great. I hate Europe. I hate Canada. Let the EU become a superstate because I can't wait to see it fall on it's face get into civil war. I would love to see France try and win a war without our help. And we should fucken wipe out all Canadians above the 49th parallel. You people suck!

America is the most money mad country in the world, but the whole of the world wants to follow it. Their are some great things about america the openess of the people is one of the best i think,

I live with alot of forigen students from europe if you bring up the issue of america they moan, the germans call britain the 51st state but if you take out all the american influencies in their life like 'films, junk food, certain style of clothes' they would be the first to moan.

For the record the US never saved britain from the nazis, that was done by us in the battle for britain, thus they could not invade, the russians saved europe by destroying the greater part of the german war machine, america and uk then helped to absorbe more of the german war machine by attacking from the west. America help europe in WW1 and WW2 because back then europe was the biggest trading partner for the US, and america needed the economies of europe to be free, so just like in the gulf war it was a politicl decision, not the big war of open hearted sacrifice.

Their are african nations who want to join the european union, because they realise that is will bring stability and wealth to their countries, the british empire was responsible for some bad things but we brought democracy to a larger part of the world and also brought the rule of law which is the fist thing a country needs to progress. Look at how spain ruled parts of south america, and look at australia and new zeland and canada today.

As for the slave issue i think the US has a lot to look back on. And WHERE were you 'UNCLE SAM' WHEN THE IRA WERE PUTTING BOMBS IN SHOPPING CENTRES AND KIDS WERE BEING KILLED AND ALL THE OTHER CRIMES THAT THEY COMMITTED. The IRA were living it up in New York on fund raisers, not until the next day after sep 11 did bush close down the REAL IRA website, they planted a bomb that killed kids mothers fathers.

Why americans have it in for canadians i dont know, the US seems like the former soviet union and china today, it seems that the strength of national identity is so weak that you have to have as many us flags around as possible and repeat that natinal anthem as many times possible because if you dont you will forget your nationality. America is a great country and i would be proud to call myself a canadian.

WHY ARE ALL THE ROADS IN FRANCE LINED WITH TREES

because the german army likes to march in the shade.

Sorry, but America is definitely NOT the land of opportunity freedom and equality for every one - ask any black man living in an inner city ghetto; ask any native American living on a reservation; ask any hispanic working in a restaurant. Go south and see ignorance, prejudice and segregation - slavery still exists.

America is a corrupt, drug-infested, gun-ridden shithole. I don't want any aspect of American culture - jealous of your wealth? Not likely! - I feel sorry that you live in a blinkered society that prides itself on delusions of freedom and democracy.

America was built on lies, deception, theft and blood. It has gone to war nearly every decade since the late 1800's.

For two years Britain stood alone in WWII, and the price America charged for entry was extortionate - Britain made the final repayment on the loan last year, and had to give up a number of possessions (e.g. Diego Garcia). It's because of Britain and Russia that we speak English and not German American entry into the WWII nothing to do with peace and democarcy. IBM was operating in Germany and was instrumental in the extermination of the jews.

I'm convinced that without the US, the soviets could have defeated the nazis. As Stalin said "they have 40 million people, I have 120 million - we can go one-for-one".

In fact, I miss the old Soviet Union - it at least acted as a counter weight to US hegemony. It's a pity they're gone.

American policy has killed and maimed millions in the name of freedom and democracy - visit Vietnam, Nicaragua, Chile and learn the truth. Who do you think these countries would view as terrorists and killers?

I feel that that America will use nuclear weapons in a war within 5 years - in fact, the army wanted to do so over Cuba. Cuba!!

FYI, it was because of a Briton that the world wide web exsits. And Britain was a far more effective empire than the Romans. And more enlightened.

There is no honour in modern-day America - money is all that counts, regardless of how it's acquired. Bush is a moron who perverted the constitution by stealing the presidecncy. But that's okay because he rules a nation of fat, ignorant morons.

America will be the death of this planet. America, land of corporate greed and home of the depraved. I really wish that America would revert to isolationism. Then all these loud, fat, sweat Yanks in their polyester shell suits would go the fuck back to their shithole. I'm waiting for the revolution - I may be a white man, but I will be on the side of black American

Ukgeezer you are a classic example of someone who is jealous of the USA. Do you have such strong feelings on Bangladesh or Sri Lanka? I think not. If you were not jealous of the US you wouldn't take the time to come here and give your misinformed statements on the USA. If you're unhappy in the UK do what millions of others have done over the centuries-move. The weather, food and dental care are much better elsewhere.

" quote "

"Who cares what British people think. We saved there ass in World War 2."

I suggest you go back to school to retake history, at the time america intervined in ww2 the war had allready turned in the allies favor, the battle of britian had been won and germany had no chanse of invadeing england, Beacuse of englands vast sea and air supority this would be inpossable, the war in africa had basicly been won and on the easten front with russia germany was suffering major defeats and in many places retreating. America did not win the war nor save anybodys ass. It mearly speeded up the rate tof which the war was won by privideing men and supplys. ( of which countrys like britian are still paying for )

All war and terrorist shit aside...do you all have any idea how disgustingly racist you're ALL being? Grow up, for the love of everything.

Finally, a reasonable comment. It only took almost a year.

It's such a pleasure to watch retarded yanks squirm in the face of international criticism.

The US has to be the most arrogant, idiotic, ignorant, self-obsessed "country" on the planet.

Your politicians (most notably George Dubya)

all seem to be terribly inept, something that becomes immediately apparent when they are compared with European leaders.

You are totally devoid of any culture or identity,

and you seem to like to steal your history from other Nations (Britain in particular).

Your constitution was derived from ours and your legal system was based on ours!

Britain has done more for the world than the US ever could - the English enlightenment introduced the ideas of indiviual liberty and rights, which the US claimed credit for.

Why do you act as if the US has never needed Europe?

If it wasn't for Britain, you would not exist!

Times are changing, the US is losing its position in the world to Europe, and in my view the quicker this happens, the better.

Americans are wicked and evil place. Americans should be forced to have some one from the 3rd world live in there house and work for the people of the 3rd world.

When American is spoken to they should always say “I am sorry”.

Yes the world is much smarter then all Americans.

Americans are Fat, lazy, have no capacity for individual thought and can never be as glamorous as any European, wise as oriental, spiritual as an Arab, logical as a Russian.

No never. The best Americans can hope to be is the measuring stick of how not to be.

What will be your tone once we find the nukes and other weapons of mass destruction? You're ignorent. Trying to blame us for using the A-bomb in Japan. We probably savedc millions of innocent Japanese children by preventing an invasion of Japan. But I'm more concernabout the Americans we save, including my Dad and Uncles. Plus Japan started the war. Ask China how many Chinese babies were killed by Jap soldiers tossing them up in the air only to have them land on their bayonets. You from Australia better thank your butts that we saved you from Japan in WWII. If Iraq does get off a A-bomb, I hope you suffer fdrom it because you suck. We were happy not being involved in the world's affairs. You Europeans scewed up the world so much, we had to come forth and save your sorry butts.

What is consistant throuhout all the comments on this site, besides poor grammer?

An apparent miopic veiw of the peoples of other cultures. I am American. I am not fat, lazy, or stupid. We are black, white, oriental, hispanic and native. We are rich, poor, racist, non-racist, stupid, smart, enlightened, unenlightened, brave, cowardly, conservitive, liberal ect. ect. We can no more be painted with one brush then we can paint the French, Brits or Germans with one brush. Give up the hate speech and open your eyes. This world is made up of 6 billion INDIVIDUALS. Think about it.

All you ungrateful europeans should be ashamed of yourselves!! Besides saving your asses from the krauts and japs in WWII(Japs wanted to invade all of Asia, and yes that includes all the commonwealth states from the lymies!), we defended your behinds from the ruskies! Let me take you all back to school! Joseph Stalin wasn´t any better than the Fuhrer, he´s plans was to take all of europe and japan (declared war on japan after defeating the krauts and was planning to conquer all of manchuria + mainland japan) and convert it to a vast communist empire! If it weren´t for the display of power the americans showed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki + invasion of mainland europe on 1944, Stalin would have unleashed the russian juggernaut all over europe and asia!!!!

So all of you are f**** wrong that the USA didn´t make a difference in WWII!!!!!!!

You ungrateful little Co**suckers should show at least some respect to the gratest nation to have ever existed, USA!

SUCK MY FAT AMERICAN COCK......we don't care what you other 3rd world countries like Australia,Canada, and France think.....we run the planet only because you can't......someone has to do the job.

I hereby proclaim that I, George Bush Jr., AKA President of the United States of America, will pull all my forces out of every country in the world, leaving each country to fend for themselves.

I will make America isolationist starting with ending all US funding of the United Nations. (I find it odd that the UN doesn't received required payments from member nations around the world, except for an extreme few; one is America. And it's also strange that the UN finds a way to survive on a budget the size of...well, the United States' yearly dues.)

In order to accomplish perfect isolationism, I will by executive order, reinstate high tarriffs on all goods imported by other countries. France is hereby forbidden from trading with America.

I will, by executive order, reinstate all applicable loans and interest and late fees due to the United States from other nations in which we loaned to you to rebuild your countries (among them: France and Germany).

I also will push through congress a law stating that it will be illegal to refer to anything "French," or to speak French. Volkswagen cars are now illegal.

Finally, the next time the world falls under a war (which shouldn't take long after the United States pulls out of defending it), America will, by executive order, declare a nationally observed holiday known as: "France is Dead Day."

May God continue to bless the only country on earth worth blessing: America.

these nationalist comments are rediculous i am american and i cant stand my country, its not about who can kick whose ass(arse) or who killed the most natives and enslaved the most people tthe US and europe and all other countries have had their fair share of wrongdoings. its up to us as the next generation to evolve beyond being citizens of a country but citizens of the world. i mean, making fun of cultures? thats a bit immature. the world needs to forget its violent past and move on through peace. and all nations- especially america- need to devote most if not all of their time to human rights

Marshall Plan....Lend-Lease.....The US saved Britain in WW 2 and the rest of Europe. Britain was not winning the war in Europe when the US entered. Germany controlled most of the continent in 1941. Britain's great navy as pointed out in earlier posts was in poor shape and with France falling to the Nazis and to themselves (Vichy, the French even hate themselves it seems) who was going to come to the aid of Britain? New Zealand? LOL So for all those who have forgotten their history lessons across the pond look up how the US traded ships for naval bases to the UK. This was after we had most of our Pacific fleet destroyed at Pearl Harbor. We were able to rebuild and still offer ships to Britain. Then to all you ungratefuls in France and Deutschland refresh your memory with the Marshall Plan. Do you also forget the US did most of the fighting in the Pacific as well as aiding Europe? I often hear grumblings from Brits how it took the US two years to enter WW2 only entering after it was attacked. I think we should have entered sooner but who can change history? Funny now though how the same logic comes from Europe. You weren't attacked so it's not your problem right? How hypocritical.

Just spotted this site. What rhetoric. It's interesting because I'm a citizen of both the EU whose lived in the US in the past.

I'll agree that the US did not win all of WWII like they like to say. The US played a key part because they essentially won the Pacific Theatre (the co-equal Part II of the war so often overlooked by non-US people, since our history book likes to overlook our huge ineffectiveness and embarrasments in the Pacific Theatre), but the Soviets easily bore the brunt of the war in the European Theatre. The majority of Nazi troops and resources were spent on the vicious and massive Russian front, whilst the West opened up the second front that drained out the Nazis. The US had key supporting allies in Britian (the launching pad) and the Commonwealth nations, although the US was the most powerful of the allied western forces. The US did keep Britian alive with shipping, although the RAF prevented the Nazis from getting Operation Sea Lion in motion. Thank God for the Channel, Britain's best line of defence ever. The US did essentially win the Pacific Theatre, with an honourable mention to allied forces. Blaming the US for the use of the A-bombs is intellectually dishonest. The Japanese wrongfully thrust that war on others and were brutal and rapacious warriors and imperialists. It was predicted that the invasion of Japan would have cost 1 million lives. Therefore the use of the two A-bombs brought Japan's wrongful aggression to a close with an additional 9-1 proportional save in lives without their use. All of the allies supported the decision, so there is no honest grounds to claim foul with the US on that matter.

I'll agree that Americans can be cocky bastards, but that is a positive as well as a negative. They have confidence we in Europe lack today, and we take out our frustrations on them rather than building genuine backbone. On this site the US cockiness is showing itself in its negative light, but then again the negative side comes out through the abuse heaped on them by the negative attitudes of others.

The Americans are right to take grave offence to the unsolicited negative commentary and gratuitous slaps so commonly thrown against them. We in Europe have no room the lecture given our reponsibility for the deaths of 90 million people in the last century, including not one but two world wars that, of note here, also dragged the US into them without their fault, killing almost a million of them. Our former successes were built on the pain and empires we built for our own advancement. We ourselves created the Third World with all our empire building and then abandonment of them, leaving them chaotic. We have abdicated responsibility to the Americans to deal with these broke societies we created, and have added insult to injury by judging the US in the ways it has had to deal with these highly disfunctional societies created by our past imperialism.

Our societies are more racist and intolerant than the US. I even ask our German visitor to explain his nation's past and present citizenship policies to prove my point. One of the US' many great qualities is its ability to absorb millions of ethinicities and make Americans of them. I'll agree that the blacks have gotten it worse, but the US removed slavery with the pain of blood and guts whilst Europe supported the southern Confederacy. Don't forget that. We must also remember that all nations had the slavery practice in the past, and we Europeans were large participants in the slavery practice in our empires. There is racism today, but the black American economy is the 6th wealthiest in the world if separated to itself. That's an incredible fact, and the Americans are closing the gaps. On this fact, I take notice and wish my European compatriots really ought to mind their mouth because the poisons of racism come from Europe and elsewhere, and it is hard getting rid of the poisons inherited from the European and other parts of the world, and it's remarkable achievement how well they have done to date.

I also note that the US, unlike Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin, and others, has not used its miltiary might to create empires and destroy societies. It has largely been a good force. Those who attempt to claim otherwise are simply being intellectually dishonest for some lower purpose. As for Iraq, the issue of war is a tough one and has both sides to explain. Americans should take their moves seriously, and I believe they do. However, we in Europe must open our minds as well because the Americans have a point too. The Iraq problem has been before the UN for a long time, and Hussein has ignored 12 years of UN mandates. He has operated his nation in a manner that has invaded two other nations, murdered and tortured his people, and used WMD against his own people and others. He has given the proverbial middle finger to the world's UN resolutions. We must be prepared in one way or another to assure that UN mandates are obeyed or else the institution will be worthless. We should also know too well the cost of appeasing tyrants. If we wish that matters of international dimension be controlled through the UN and not determined on an individual basis, we must assure that it is up to the task where enforcement is required.

I believe that Bush is largely (but not completely as many claim) an idiot. I believe that many of our European leaders and those elsewhere are even bigger idiots in addition to being corrupt and dishonest.

Americans may be in large numbers be fat, but they are not stupid. Our waistlines are also big and catching up. Americans did not get so successful by being stupid. Quite the contrary, they are admirably savvy, bright and dynamic. Europeans and others are far more likely to be treacherous and plotting in their dealings. This includes shifting the blame for many things on the US. Americans too often take others' opinions too lightly. We've been around forever and have very bright and involved societies. Our opinions are necessary and worthwhile. What America and everyone else does will affect each other, so it is time for everyone to stop talking past each other and start talking to each other, because right now that is what all parties are doing in equally disgusting proportions, accomplishing nothing but burning bridges and giving Saddam and his global ilk a genuine grin.

I can sum up the anti-american sentiment in Europe in 2 words: penis-envy.

Theres nothing more pathetic that watching you pompus Brits whine and moan like a bunch of losers. Get a grip. Chin up, ol' boy! Where is your self repect? Where is the tough, courageous Brits I love so well?

You sound like a bunch of bitchy little girls.

I have always held the UK in high regard. I have tremendous respect for the UK - I really do. I have a good friend who lived 16 years in Leads. But witnessing this insecurety - it's very sad, very sad.

What ever happened to us all just working together, man? Wheres the love?

James, Missouri.

Thank you, EU Man. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Finally someone who is honest. Thank you for recognizing the United States' failures and successes and the EU's failures and successes.

I love America. I support Bush. Just because he seems a bumbling idiot, doesn't mean he's not a smart man. I'm not quite sure where I stand on war with Iraq; but I support my president. But just because of my patriotism, doesn't mean that I am blithely naive, either. Americans, like every other nation on earth, has its faults. But it angers me to see other nations bash us like we're some backwater, unsophisticated pikeys.

America has worked hard on cleaning up the world's mess. We give copiously to Third World nations in the form of monetary support and humanitarian aide. We restore governments. And we helped rebuild Europe following WWII, of which loans have, for a big part, been forgiven.

England is our ally. France should be. The battle of Normandy (D-Day...remember it?) was largely designed by Americans. The Allies fought with us; and thousands were mowed down on the beaches because we beleived first and foremost that everyone in the world has the right to live in freedom. Our men died not only for freedom, though, but for France. They died for the England. They died for Russia. They died for China. They even died for the Germans, Italians, and the Japanese.

But America has faults, too. So many faults that to list them here would require gigs of memory. We're bullies. We ignore other countries' advise. We don't heed warnings. We force ourselves into other peoples' business. We are fantastically wealthy...perhaps even fantastically greedy. We ruin picturesque countryscapes with McDonalds and Wendy's and Holiday Inns.

No matter what, though, we're fantastically giving. We send people to countries all over the world to assist in the cleanup of natural disasters. We continue to rebuild countries. We have individual donors giving millions and billions of dollars into countries in order to help them become self-sufficient. Our business men and women invested in other countries so that some semblance of an economy could begin to grow--and yes, they did it for their own gain as well.

But no matter how much we help, we never receive any help. Our friends in the UK have been immeasurably helpful in our war on terror. As has much of the EU. But how much help were we given, either monetarily or otherwise, to cleanup the twin towers? What about when so many died because of Hurricaine Andrew 10 years ago? Or the earthquake in San Fransisco?

The bottom line is that Americans help when we are asked to help. We give whatever we can possibly give. We donate whatever we can possibly donate. We even sacrifice our own lives for people we've never met and to help fix problems we never created. And for that, we are hated. We are loathed. We are spit on. We are stomped on. Our eyes are blackened. Our noses are bloodied.

All I have left to say is this: Ignoring the present conflict with Iraq, what would happen if YOUR country was attacked tommorow? What if your loved ones were killed? Or, what if a tidal wave destroyed your city? How would you feel if America was as giving as the French? You wouldn't feel as safe or comforted would you?

I hope Americans do not take the negative comments about their country to heart on this site.

If anyone gave me any anti-american rhetoric, I would argue against them. Im still sure that when president roosevelt sat down and discussed the prospect of america entering WW2, the prospect of trading with 'nazi germany' in the future didnt appeal to him, but according to spealberg and other american film makers, the american goverment went to war without a second thought for themselves.

But american servicemen did make a sacrifice and I am greatfull for that, as a kid I was taken to US Airforce Bases in 'England' to watch airshows and thought they were great and still do.

But most importantly their are those in the world who cant stand up for themselves, and in some cases america is the only force in the world that is willing to raise its voice and not have to be worried about the economic consiquencies of offending a regieme or country.

Because of the fractional nature of 'Europe' finding a general consensus on an impotant political issue is a big problem. And hence when we try and commit ourselves to a political policy we dont sound convincing.

For future world stability I would like to see'China' become a superpower, becasue I think that the worlds needs another world policeman. Not refering to 'Iraq' but I think everytime america makes a move in the world they are critised for what ever move they make, where i think the chineese will take the view that if they are not welcome in their efforts to contribute to world stability they will withdraw their help, when faced with critisism like america has to endure with every step it makes.

I dont think america is perfect for any US citizen that does i think you need to research you countries economic and energy policies. But america has more positives than negatives and it is the positives that people need to talk about more.

In an ironic sence america shows what europe is capable of when europeans get together.

The truth of the matter is that americans for overconfident self centered people. They just need to learn humitity. Yes Bush is an complete idiot. No i do not hate America. No i do not hate Europe or Canada. Yes Sudam is just as bad as Bush. Yes the allies would have won World War 2 with out america. Yes America is somewhat bossy. No America is not the king of the world. Yes America is not that bad of a countrie.

Yes I do know my spelling sucks. Also I do really hate racists, braggers, and agrregent people. Nuck Canada and some other people on this page I know are omplete idiots. Oh yes; in resonse to the person who said that america can take on Europe, no. America Would lose quite easily to Europe. America is still not that bad

America is still not that bad, but Bush majorly sucks.

Yes! Your completely right! Your spelling does suck!!!!!! Are you from a 3rd world country or what?? Anyways, I´ve been reading the recent posts and I´m 100% with True yank comments! We all know the USA has it´s good and bad, but the thing we shouldn´t forget is that we are the defenders of the free world! Thousands of american citizens have died around the world fighting for other people´s freedom without even receiving a simple thanks. But at the end, when everything is said and done, all of america is proud of everyone of them!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!

This arguing could go on forever but I have to say this puting Saddam and Bush together isn't accomplishing anything. I mean, just one example of that freak, Saddam, is when he put his rancid son in charge of thier olympic team. When the soccer team lost to Jordan he imprisoned them all and beat them 20 times daily. Many other athletes were treated worse.

Is the UK press really so manipulative as to misinform the British public? To actually work as a propaganda machine for Saddam? I just don't get it. What are you trying to accomplish? UK that is. We all know that France and Germany has it's hand down Saddam's pants for decades. All the deals to build nuclear plants, buying oil, selling chemicals etc. But what is the UK trying to gain?

I wonder if it's just as simple as the fact that Bush isnt a solialist like the Europeans and the American Democrats? (an utterly failed system by the way)I can remember how Europe was wetting themselves to get a piece of that weasel Clinton. And he is afterall socialist like Y'ALL. The guy could do no wrong. Clinton lobbed 450 cruise missiles at Saddam in '98 and you were silent. He bombed an asprin factory and you said nothing - or little if anything.

Let's just watch now that Saddam is refusing to destroy missiles as ordered to do so by the mighty inspectors. Will France and Germany continue to stand by and stuff daisies up it's ass? Or will the U.N. finally find a place in this insane world?

"An observer" I would have to correct you on on some of your points. Europe would not beat America in a war. Europe as a whole spends one tenth what the US does on military defense. One of the reasons why it doesn't matter militarily (not symbolically) if Europe backs the US on Iraq is that they have no military to offer to the cause of any significance except for the UK. France has two warships and Germany under their own constitution after the war is required to maintain a low level military. The Russian soldiers sell their boots for food and are thirty years behind even the rest of Europe in their defense capabilities. What allies are you talking about in WW2 that could have one the war without the US? Read EU man's post for clarification. You may not like president Bush but he his in no way as bad as Saddam Hussein. That's an absurd statement. Other than that thanks for not totally bashing the US. Thanks The Patriot for you kind words. Dittos!

True Yank:

Come on now. Europe streches from Iceland to Russia. It's huge. How could we beat them? We haven't the manpower to do so. Also, how could we control such a large populations of people who would naturally resist the occoupation of such wrongful invaders? No way. Yeah, maybe we could all push buttons and destroy each other, but that's not a win but a total loss for everyone.

Why the hell are Americans and Europeans here even debating such a stupid topic????? God, we're allies, free and democratic and blood cousins for God's sake. This shows just how stupid our dialogue has gotten over this Iraq thing. Saddam is the enemy, man, not Europe or America, and he must be laughing his ass off in Baghdad comtemplating how next to exploit all this in-house bickering in the West. He's gotta think he can get away with anything just looking at us. V.I. Lenin once said a big key to his survival was all the "useful idiots" in the West. I don't want to be Saddam's useful idiot. He's murdered millions of people continually, invaded nations, and sought nukes and biological and chemical weapons that he uses when he has them. A evilest wretch among monsters a real damger to others and a continuous inflicter of crimes against humanity within his own borders. We all gotta grow up and start showing ourselves as the winners that our grandfathers were back in the Second World War against tyrants who would put all the people they could under their heels.

Well Cool winning the fight is different from occupying all of Europe. I never said that would be easy. The Americans here are just responding to the insults thrown at us from our Euro buddies. The point of the board after all is to insult America so I don't think responding to false statements and half truths about the US is a bad thing. Have you read some of the posts? Other than EU Man and englishman their hasn't been a lot of reason on this board from our friends across the pond. Granted some Yanks have said some dumb things but only in response to being insulted. It's not surprising one stupid statement follows another.

True Yank, the "point of this board" is not to insult America. It's not a board, it's a weblog. Read the initial post. What it was about was a Tom Tomorrow cartoon at Salon entitled "Why do you hate America so much?" The phrase was the title of the cartoon, which I used for the title of the post. That was what I was commenting on, saying that I don't like war and was alarmed at the equating of dissent with anti-Americanism. Period. From there the misunderstanding has taken on quite the life of its own, and it's gotten to the point where I'm seriously considering closing comments on the post, as most of the comments amount to little more than back and forth name-calling. I'm willing to be tolerant of that, but don't start making false claims about the blog itself.

The recent actions of america and in particular george bush have been extremely worrying. Why do americas try to dictate their culture to every other country on earth? i dont ever want to live in a society like yours. Your country has a history of making poor diplomatic decisions which have consequently led to war, famine, pollution and ecological disaster? Can any of you honestly say that is a good thing? The greatest nation on earth!!!!..... that would be like saying the nazis were a nice bunch of lads. An advanced nation does not execute people. Yourselves, china and nigeria are the only countries on earth that execute juveniles. You have one of the most pig headed and ignorant as well as dangerous leaders to ever come to power. THE SADDEST THING OF ALL IS THAT THE ATROCITY OF SEPT 11 HAS ENTRENCHED THESE VIEWS EVEN DEEPER INTO YOUR TRAILER TRASH GUN TOTING SOCIETY, I PITY YOU.

OK fine. Ameria is truly a kick ass nation, but the people are still overconfident and selfcentered. I can also say that Bush is better than Sudam Hussain, but I still think that Bush is doing a bad job running the nation. Oh and I do have to hold to my statement that Europe could have won. I know that America has a powerful military.

Yes, I know my last post was not complete my computer did something weird. Back to the point.

Cool Yank had a very good comment. I also think that these claims about each nation is true.

America- The superpower nation of the time.

France- Nice place to be a tourist.

England- Best trained special fores. (SAS)

Canada- Great wildlife.

TO Jim,

"The recent actions of america and in particular george bush have been extremely worrying. Why do americas try to dictate their culture to every other country on earth?"

KPR:WE GOT STUCK WITH THAT JOB WHEN EUROPE DECIDED TO HIDE UNDER OUR MISSILES IN THE COLD WAR.

"i dont ever want to live in a society like yours."

KBR: THAT'LL BE FINE.

"Your country has a history of making poor diplomatic decisions which have consequently led to war, famine, pollution and ecological disaster?"

KPR: NAME ONE - BUT FIRST TALK A LITTLE ABOUT THE WORLDWIDE EMPIRE OF GREAT BRITAIN AND HOW IT CREATED THE THIRD WORLD WHEN IT ABANDONED NATIONS IN MASS.

Can any of you honestly say that is a good thing?

The greatest nation on earth!!!!..... that would be like saying the nazis were a nice bunch of lads.

KPR: YOU ARE IGNORANT.

An advanced nation does not execute people.

KPR: OH BUT WE DO. BUT NOT BEFORE CRIMINALS FIRST EXECUTE INNOCENTS.

Yourselves, china and nigeria are the only countries on earth that execute juveniles.

You have one of the most pig headed and ignorant as well as dangerous leaders to ever come to power.

KPR:CLINTON IS NOT PRESIDENT ANYMORE - YOU CAN RELAX.

THE SADDEST THING OF ALL IS THAT THE ATROCITY OF SEPT 11 HAS ENTRENCHED THESE VIEWS EVEN DEEPER INTO YOUR TRAILER TRASH GUN TOTING SOCIETY, I PITY YOU.

KPR: TWO WORDS - EURO TRASH.

I just read through this collection of comments, and I haven't seen so big a collection of expressions of hate and contempt anywhere on the internet before, regardless of which side of the argument they were on.

It's sad when people degenerate to using emotionally loaded statements such as those above - either the authors of these messages are much more heavily affected by the current US-EU standoff than seems appropriate, or they're very young, or this site has just had the misfortune of attracting the hateful elements of the internet. I see nothing even remotely approaching reasoned debate here.

Furthermore, as the site owner is at great pains to point out, his article wasn't about hating America, it was about a cartoon which asks why it is that when an American questions his own country's policy, he gets accused of being anti-American. For those of you who did not recognise the character in the fourth picture of the cartoon, that was Benjamin Franklin. It was about distortions of patriotism, not international relations.

Salocin,

It pains me to admit I agree - I myself being one of the young degenerates. I found this site desperate to find a way to release the frustration caused by the constant expressions of hate towards our president and our nation by Europeans as reported by the major media here in the U.S. And may I say, what we see coming from Europeans from this side of the Atlantic is truley hate, not mere disagreement. The picture created by the press here shows Europe as one big angry mob with pitch forks and torches going after the monster USA.

Those in the press such as NBC have shown absolutley nothing of the UK and Europe outside of screaming protestors and rabid European leaders lecturing us for our brutality.

You being from the UK, if you could only feel what its like to have the entire world standing against you and raising thier fists for standing for what you believe in. It wears on you after a while.

I think most Americans posting on this site are, as I am, just trying to find a place to vent. (I did afterall find this site by entering "why do you hate america" on google.com.)

Thanks for letting me do so. It has been very theraputic.

Honestly I hope that most of the people on this site don't take most of these comments to heart. In my opinion this site is just one of the many sites that let Europens and Americans argue who is better. The site also lets viewers argue about the war on Iraq and other polotic related events taking place around the world. I didn't take any offence to the Patriot's comment. I do think that every one on this site really does know that America kicks ass, Europe kicks ass, Canada kicks ass, and Ausrtalia kicks ass. Then I can also say that Kung Pow Riblets made a very good point in his last post. Oh, and if any one is still wondering, I do really think that Bush is an idiot.

But "but an observer" you still haven´t answered my question!!!!

Anyways, I also found this site by searching in www.google.com "why europeans hate americans". I just don´t get it? Why would ANYBODY hate such a great nation like the good old USA! It´s absurd, it´s wrong and it doesn´t make sense! I think I talk for all americans when I say that we are tired of saving europes ass ever time they get into trouble! But how ironic, when we get into trouble they just give us the cold shoulder! I just think the europeans (especially the french) are a bunch of cowardly and ungrateful people period. I rest my case!

By the way, I just saw the cartoon. It was halarious!

Sorry about that....fogot to post my name in the previous comment!

Cherio!

Well I didn't mean to imply that the person who created the board meant to trash America. I was trying to point out that trashing America had become the point of the board as the posts progressed. I agree with some that I'm tired of our country and our president being insulted by people who have never been to the US and do not understand it's history and it's people and culture. I too found this board by typing in "anti-americanism" on Google and have also found it therapeutic to vent my frustrations on the topics discussed here.

GOd, I just read every message on this board. What a waste of time that was. I just hope this represents the bottom of the barrel and not popular opinion. I weep for humanity.

I'm not British - I'm Belgian, but nationality shouldn't really matter, unless you intend to be racist, which is what much of the content of this board seems to be.

The feeling of "anti-americanism" (which is an american term to define something happening in Europe, and not a European term) is not so much based on Iraq, or on anything to do with the second world war (and we Europeans would so very much like you to stop harping on about that, it gets very tedious hearing you ask us to forsake our present sense of right and wrong because of previous events).

Anti-americanism, and possibly much of current French and German attitudes, come from a sense that America chooses the fate of the world, and pretends to look for global consensus, but really just wants to do what America wants to do. Either you're part of an international community or you're not, but you don't choose what bits you want to join and what not to join, there's an upside and a downside to joining a large group of nations. There's a strong sense in Europe (and note that I'm describing it here, not making an emotional argument) that our opinion only counts when we agree with America, and we're asked to shut up when we're not in agreement - this feels like an imposition of American values on the rest of the world. In times past this was called a crusade. We also have reservations regarding the concept of pre-emptive strikes - where do you stop if this doctrine is adopted? Also, Americans seem to believe that Iraq had something to do with 9/11, but there were no Iraqi terrorists nor has any link been established between those unfortunate events and Iraq. What this all boils down to is that Europeans don't really see the link between terrorism and Iraq, their attempts to get the bomb seem insignificant compared to North Korea's blatant threats and the current belligerence of Pakistan and India, and much of Europe feels that it is getting railroaded into a war that is quite undesirable, because the resentment it creates could very well trigger (rather than contain) terrorist attacks in the future.

But all of these arguments are not accepted in the US. Instead, we get labelled as cowards and liars, and have to sit through endless insults and attempts to guilt-trip us into war by using arguments dating back to the 1940s. This seems unfair. As the French premier said (and heaven knows he's said some stupid things recently, but this made sense), there's a difference between being an ally and a sycophant: an ally can disagree.

The sad thing about the arguments above is that they don't deal with the debate at hand, and they reduce the true discussion to a situation where people just "vent their spleen" but fail to make any progress in reaching a consensus. As a consequence, as an exchange of ideas, it fails. Moreover, it antagonizes people rather than bringing them together. Has everyone forgotten that the enemy is Saddam, not Europe or the US? Have people forgotten that we are allies, not enemies? I have read in the posts above, arguments about who would win if America went to war with the EU. Can nobody see how happy Hussein himself would be if he could see the effect he has managed to create in the interactions among Americans and Europeans? Why do you play into his hands in this way?

Salocin,

Thanks for giving us a view on the issue from a radically neutral national such as yours - i'm kidding...relax.

When I first read this board it never occured to me that this was a usefeul exchange of ideas. Much like the U.N., this is just a place for us to, as you put it 'vent our spleen'.

And again you have to know that we are only given obe picture of Europe by our press and what they portray is anything but a simple disagreement with the U.S. We hear Shcroder calling Bush a Nazi, Chiroc rallying in the defense of his close friend, Saddam, and everyone in between just screaming like banshi's.

Blame it on our press, but Europe doesn't come across as anything but pouting children from this perspective. And ironically, the press is more often than not siding with Europe's views.

Salocin,

A quick follow up. I totally agree with you that our bickering must be pleasing to Saddam. Even more pleasing is when he can manipulate the whole picture by, for example, agreeing to destroy the missiles that he was hiding but that the inspectors found (nevermind the missiles the inspectors didnt find)

He is in effect controlling the world scene. He must feel very powerful right now. He can play the linguini spined pacifist nations like a fiddle.

"linguini spined pacifist nations"?

You didn't read my post, and you're doing it again. What you're doing by furthering this kind of argument is helping Saddam by weakening the chance of an alliance against him. It is much more courageous in Europe to stand against the will of America than it is to join in the decimation of a country with no defences, which is why Chirac is somewhat respected - regardless of the damage he is causing.

I don't think anyone who reads any respectable press anywhere in the world can believe that France is an ally of Iraq, it's preposterous to suggest it, and is about as constructive as having McCarthy pointing the finger at random people and calling them communists. What we disagree on isn't whether or not we like him, but whether or not we should go to war with him. We don't particularly like North Korea, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iran and a host of other countries, but we're not going to war with them.

This is the wrong place for this discussion, and I should not have let myself get drawn in, so I won't be posting any more, if you want to continue this, contact me via my website and we can do it elsewhere.

Salocin,

In case you get curious and sneak a peek... I'm as hopeful as any that the allies can reach an agreement, but it aint gonna happen. For France, this is a thier oportunity to spread their wings like a cock and strut around the barn yard. "look at us, we can do as we please".

France is only showing themselves to be consistant with it's stance towards tyrants. In WW2 they laid down to Hitler and once again today, they are laying down to Saddam. They are militant pasifists you might say. "WE SAY DO NOTHING!" they proudly declare.

Things just arent accomplished that way. Let France look into the eyes of the people of Iraq and tell them "we don't care enough about your plight do bother ourselves with action".

That attitude will accomplish nothing and Chiroc should be ashamed.

How many people on this sight are below the age of 20? I seriously wonder.

salocin, KPR: feel free to continue things here if you want. It's the first thing approaching actual discussion I've seen on this page so far. So go ahead - it's a marked change from the name-calling that's preceded it.

On this site I get the impression that ameicans have the attitude of 'What have we ever done to anyone'sentiment.

One of the reasons their is anti-american sentiment in europe is because of post war trade with the united states. The US with its massive economey after the war was able to secure individual agreements with european countries about trade. Some of the agreements benifited the united states more than that country, but who could argue with the worlds largest economy, if america was to put tarrifs on that country it would devistate them, so it was best to comply with american trade negotiators.

But this was to sow the seeds of resentment for the future of europe, being an aviation enthusiast I recently visited a museum that holds a plan called the TSR-2 This was a bomber project that really started in 1960 although it was beset with problems the flight characteristics of this plane were to be ahead of any other aircraft of its function in the world. The project was near completion when a labour goverment had taken office in britain, America being the largest supplier of bomber aircraft in the world saw this british project as a threat, they had applied pressure from the start, but with a conservative goverment they new they would have no luck in canceling the project, but when questions were being asked in parliament about the projected costs of this aircraft and the fact that a labour goverment was now in office, the US saw its chance to put pressure on britain to cancel the project. And so the TSR-2 was cancelled in 1965, and america never had to worry about their 'F111 Phantom' exports around the world because their would now be no better choice to the admerable 'Phantom' and britain ended up buying the F111.

But more recently 'Europe' has began the planning of the 'Galileo' project new global posistioning system. The US has taken big objection to this, EU countries such as spain britain germany france italy, who are the major funders of this project have been pestered by american officals, saying that this project is a waste of time that it could affect the US GPS that NATO uses, and that the world does not need two systems the american state department has sent letters to all EU defence ministers in the project telling them that this project will be a costly blunder.

Now that the project has slowly progressed, the US has said that the 'Galileo' project represents a threat to american security, because forigen weapons that are guided by GPS or navigation systems that work on GPS, would become inoperable if america turned the signal off where those weapons were being used in that part of the world.

But if the Europeans have a system, other countries weapon systems could work on them. But the real american case behind this is the fact that if europe has its own GPS it will have the exclusive rights to manufacture the recieving technology that goes along with it, just like america has now with its GPS system, and so other countries around the world will have a choice of european or US systems, but america dosent want anyone eating into their pie. For americans on this site you should do a search on 'Google' on EUROPES GALILEO GPS SYSTEM and their you will read about the extensive and intrusive american efforts in EU policy to get this project scrapped and ask yourself how you would feel if the EU interfered in american policy like that.

Look at airbus the EU aircraft manufactuer, we are now the largest commercial aircraft exporter in the world, with boeing being second. Airbus has anounced that they will build a super jumbo. Boeing and the state department said rubbish the world airline industry doesent need one, but boeing started plans for its own super jumbo even though it critised the european dicision, the US say Airbus gets subsidies from the EU goverments 'true' but the EU say that america puts massive state money into NASA which inturn shares development technology in aircraft with american aircraft companies.

But from a british perspective, the coperation of US and UK goverments work better for us than for other EU countries, the Joint strike fighter program which britain has a hand in developing with lockhead martain works well for us, america is the major money backer of the program and we get to design and manufacture a percentage of the aircraft for a period of time.

Though at the time a decision was being made in the US senate if the contract for the project should go to Boeing or lockhead, but the british goverment being close to the US on defence matters Im sure helped in them awarding the contract to lockhead martain. Plus america gets to keep britain out of any EU fighter programs that could rival theirs.

The US is at the moment complaining on behalf of US farmers about the size of labels on EU food products which informs people that it is genetically modified food. America says that this might stop people from buying the products and hence american food stuffs, but we say that citizens of the EU have the right to know. On this issue the US has threatened sanctions but the EU no longer being individual nations now has the strength to stand up to the economically strong US. I would have thought as an EU citizen it is up to the european parliament what size label we stick on products.

Some people in britain did raise the issue if it would be better to link out economy to the US economy and accept the dollar instead of in the future accepting the euro. Britain works well with american companies on business and in some cases alot better than with our EU parteners where major projects run into frightening cost overuns. Plus their is the added benefit of speaking roughly the same language already americans words started to seap into the english language now it seems to have become a flood but language is a living thing that changes, Britain now has more shopping malls than any other EU country, it has been said that the UK is always 10 years behind america in social change though i think the gap si now about 5 years, the UK has never been afraid to follow the american trend. The conservative goverment in the 80s palnned a british US style free wheeling economy based on the US. I am in two minds if britain should align its self with the united states instead of european integration .

So to sum up for those yanks out their who wounder (why dont they like us), dont just think its becasue people are jelous, which does play a part, scratch beneith the surface and usually you can find the seeds of friction.

I think america is great but I also realise that the US has its claws retracted while it is winning, but they come out when it is not.

All the arrguments started with dude, and Pauline Martin.

I fucking hate how everyone is anti-American... "Bush did this, blah blah." Shut the fuck up. How can the actions of a few speak for a whole nation? They can't. Just because someone is a citizen of a country doesn't mean their beliefs coincide with that of the nation's. If I was God, I'd have an apocalypse just to prove that no country is better than any other. Some countries have more money or more nukes... that doesn't make a country or the people living there better. Think before you open your fucking mouths. Not everyone can have everything, don't blame Americans, blame natural selection.

Oh yeah. Pauline Martin can go fuck herself. Saying America doesn't know shit about world issues is just prejudice. Once again, some nutstain had to open their mouth before they spoke. Die in the Outback listening to Silverchair.

Well englishman I would agree with you that the US and Britain could integrate their economies. I just spent ten days in the UK and loved it. Along with a common language and culture (mostly) there were many things in the UK that were very American. From food and shops to clothes and television. I was amazed at how at home I felt on one hand and then how much at the same time I was in a foreign land. I saw as many NY Yankees caps in London as I did in NYC. I was in England, Wales and Scotland and loved all the history and culture. Also the food was excellent in Britain so I don't know why you get a bad rap for that here. I think it's cool Britain has kept the pound and not gone to the Euro. I think also maybe in several years the US along with perhaps Canada and the UK and maybe the Aussies and Kiwis could have a common currency and closer economies to rival the EU.

I was watching a round table discussion on NBC's Today show centered around the Iraqi conflict. One of the panelists said that Iraq spends $300million a year on his military. He buys from 17 countries and guess who the big three are of those seventeen: thats right, France, Germany and Russia. What a shock!

What a shameless bunch of hypocrits. Saddam has killed at least one million of his own people and has one of the worst human rights records in history.

Knowing what I know about the France-German-Russia tie to Iraq, I can never take seriously the "opposition to war" that those coutries preach. They are inciting fear and anger throughout the world only to protect their own financial interests.

The axis-of-greed are vetoing a resolution today that only reiterates resolution 1441. They already approved the use of force - this is redundant. I wish someone would some authority in EU would call them on this.

Shouldn't have come back, but at least I'll try to be to the point this time.

I've learnt it's better to focus on facts and keep emotions somewhere else.

(a) Stop looking at the past, the question is why do people hate America _today_. It's got little to do with the second world war etc.

(b) People feel oppressed by America throwing its economic, political and military weight around. Anti-americanism, such as it is labelled, is a symptom of that displeasure, not a dislike of Americans as individuals, or their culture - those are just the emotional arguments used to express the displeasure when in an argument such as this, faced with the kinds of insults that have been aired here - Europeans, like anyone, will just give as good as they get when the gloves come off.

(c) Every country (barring perhaps Greenland and the North and South Poles) has some very dark pages in its history. This kind of mudslinging, based on alleged past misdeeds, serves no-one and does not progress the argument.

(d) Many countries sell/sold arms to Iraq. In an attempt to "influence the region", the US built up Iraq to counter Iran, which was (and is) a sponsor of terrorism. Many of the weapons Iraquis wield are US-made. Referring back to point (c), once again, there's nothing you can accuse one country of that another participant in the discussion can't counter by pulling a dark page out of your history book. This just degenerates into a slanging match and we'll all end up talking about the horrible European Colonies and the Americans killing all the native indians - neither of which are particularly relevant to the subject of this discussion.

(e) Nothing good has ever come from humiliating another country. This was the lesson of the first world war, and why much rebuilding had to be done (much of it financed by America) immediately after. Humiliated countries bear a grudge, based on injured national pride, which leads to more conflict. If you need any assistance seeing how extreme people can become when motivated by injured or challenged national pride, read the comments above.

(f) Europeans and Americans don't hate each other, that's bullshit. If they did, words like "Allies" and "Partners" wouldn't get used in politics, and I wouldn't be able to walk around Philadelphia without getting beaten up, neither would all my American friends be able to walk around Brussels without getting beaten up.

(g) Let's turn down the volume on the rhetoric, and get back to the discussion at hand, do we want to be constructive, or just vent. If the answer is "just vent", then I'll piss off and leave you to it.

Welcome back, Salocin.

Fact: France, Germany and Russia have contracts to build arms and supply various chemical agents to Iraq as well as contracts to build nuclear facilities (France).

Fact: France, Germany and Russia oppose any armed conflict with Iraq but want instead to exhaust all diplomatic efforts (12 years isnt enough).

Fact: The Clinton administration tried diplomatic means to prevent North Korea from developing nuclear weopons in the 90's.

Fact: North Korea developed nulclear weopons and look at the mess we're in.

Fact: Defecting Iraqi scientists have repeatedly confirmed Saddams efforts and intent to create nuclear weopons.

Diplomacy didnt work with one lunatic and it wont work with another.

By the way - Is it not sad how Hans Blitz has become a politician and not an inspector? There are thousands of pounds of chemical agents unaccounted for and that moron is dancing around because Saddam destroyed a few missiles. It's all a joke. How can any intelligent person take the U.N.'s efforts seriously? I mean be honestly - deep down in your euro-souls do you really care if Saddam becomes a super power? I dont think you do. Sorry to dip into history but damnit here we go again - passive weak pathetic French @#** (EMOTION)

Well said earlier KPR about the underlying agendas of France, Germany and Russia. A lot of money motivates their stance, and very few are pointing that out these days and it's unfair it has not. They ought to get called on that inconsistency. I'm sure the Iraqi people don't appreciate the pretend piousness of Saddam's main financiers and armers today.

However, Salocin posted very well that we armed him too when it suited us, so we have no big soapbox of higher morality now that he does not. Governments everywhere act on interest, money and influence and use morality as a mask to cover it. It's a game where a few really win and many lose. Just ask the Iraqi people.

Very well posted Salocin. I'd be happy to discuss any issues here with you without the BS.

Yo, are "yous" a Philly guy now? Same here.

Ahem...Lately i have heard many arrogant, if not ignorant por-war slogans, kids going around saying "we should just nuke them" or "god bless america" and i jsut can't take it. As we sit on the brink of war, a war that will cost billions of dollars, tens of thousands of lives(the last war against iraq had over 35000 civillian causalties), and who knows what else, and i cant help but think that this is a bad idea. Since 9/11, americans blindy rallied their patriotism and have since lost the true meaning of america. america isnt our government or our systems, america is the spirit of rebellion towards peace and freedom, america is the underground, lost in the masses of society that dare to challenge the system. we have a responsibility as americans to keep our government in check, to fight for justice and most importantly, to stop this war.

Our government's hypocracy is blatent in the world. While we ready ourselves for war to "get rid of weapons of mass destruction" pakistan has quite a neuclear arsenal, as well as our governments support.double standard? you betcha. not to mention the united states' weapons of mass destruction which have been used in atrocities such as the bombings of hiroshima and nagisaki, where countless civilians were murdered by our bombs. we wave these over the heads of other countries, bullying them into submission.

And what of this "war on terrorism"? While president bush has elated on terrible actions of terrorism, he supports the school of the americas(now whinsec) at ft. benning, georgia, where our government trains latin american soldiers in counter narcotics, as well as tourture tactics with little emphasis on human rights, in fact graduates of the school of the americas have been convicted in many acts of violence and terror, including the assassination of archbishop oscar romero in el salvador, and el mozote(the massacre) where over 900 unarmed civilians were gunned down. (if you want to find out more about the terrible truth of the SOA go to www.soaw.com) Essentially, we help to train the terrorists who become corrupt dictators or leaders of death squads. the war on terrorism should start in our own back yard by closing down the SOA.

the bottom line is that this war is an unprovoked aggression against not just a dictator but a county of people like you and me striving to live and striving to be free. our attack will destroy their enconomy and their country. We need to stop thinking as ourselves as americans but as citizens of the world.

it may seem like one person as an individual cant do anything to stop or influence our government, but if nothing else, stand firm in your beliefs, and be patient, because the ideas of revolution, of peace, cant be stopped, and someday we just might reach our dream

The last few comments share a familiar tone. I gather from what I've read that the best thing to do is to send back the U.S. troops and let it all be. Super!

Then a few months later Saddam will cast out the brave inspectors and we'll be back to business as usual. And as long as we're going to ignore anyone who opposes the west, lets just dust off our old Agnostic Front and Black Flag records and get high.

I mean, let's just be patient with Saddam and Korea. Those bastard Americans think they can call the shots...we'll show them. In true European form lets DARE TO DO NOTHING!

By the way True Yank, Solicin also pointed out that we cant live in the past. Yes we have all done wrong at times but right now there is a madman in charge of the U.N. - Saddam.

Is this some kind of denial thing? Or just good old fashioned Old Europe pride....I dont get it. I just dont understand how sitting on our pius asses does any damn good at all. The facts are clear; Saddam has no intention to disarm.

Oh and by the way, we are going to unseat that bastard no matter how many rally to defend Saddam in Europe. So get out your idiotic signs and go to the streets. "No War" whatever... you dumb asses! War isnt good but letting a man bent on war go unchecked is. Wow! Ya sold me!

By the way, Punker. What revoltion are we talking about here? One socialist world government?

Why do we hate America? We don't hate America we hate Bush!

I would rather have Saddam Hussein as my leader than that weasle Bush. At least he's more intelligent. Wouldnt it be wonderful if Iraq became a super power to keep the U.S. in check?

Bush is a terrorist and a madman.

One day there will be one government over this world and the U.S. will be a nation of peasants. Europe will rule over one society where all wealth is shared and no one lives above another.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Stalins death, let me invite everyone to read an article I found in the New York Post that goes along with the general theme of this board. This article gives a history of the "peace movement" and it's beginning.

http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/69969.htm

dont you see that if we stick to our current ways we are like to start a third world war? IF you think that killing is the only answer, you have never heard of people like mohatma ghandi, martin luther king jr.,Oscar Romero, Dorthy Day, all who peacefully sought political and social change. In 1947 there were enough neuclear weapons to destroy the world twice, imagine how many there are now. its so funny really, how nothing has changed for as long as humanity has existed, we still have to have our "territorial pissings" like the senseless banter that goes on in here, we still have no other way to resole conflict besides strength. sure weve found new ways to kill each other, and we are more civilized because we have jesus on speed dial on our cell phones, and can buy god with our credit cards. the revolution im talking about kung pow, is a revolution of thought- a break through in the minds of people everywhere, to open their closed minds, and to let their egos take a break. where people everywhere in any nation, can enjoy peace and freedom. i just hope it comes sooner than later.

-yea yea you can spare me all the macho talk, because as everyone knows, having compassion, or taking a chance and caring, is all bullshit and peace jsut doesnt satisfy our aggressive tendencies, we need bloodshed am i right?(note the sarcasm) honestly woudnt you prefer serenity to violence and chaos?

by the way, could we all stop attacking cultures, languages, beliefs etc i respect people with opinions, even if they differ from mine, but i cant respect somthing as low as name calling

by the way, could we all stop attacking cultures, languages, beliefs etc i respect people with opinions, even if they differ from mine, but i cant respect somthing as low as name calling

Forgive me for stooping to name calling earlier. Punker, I dont think there is a sane person alive who wouldn't choose serinity over violence. You sound like a young idealist with strong convictions - (or somewith with a bad drug habit).

Call me stubborn but I can't see how you can effectively use compassion to sway a man (Saddam) who is void of compassion. It's like trying to throw daisies at a starving lion. The only language he understands is, regretably, violence.

KPR, i agree that sometimes in extreme situations peoples minds are so warped that even compassion can sway them. i think saddam and his regime should be arrested and put on trial. i just dont think its fair to hurt the innocent iraqis by destroying their economy and their homes. its sad but somtimes the only thing that will divert people from their ways is violence, sheer might- i just hope that the strength is in the right hands and used wisely- the good guys dont always win in the real world, but in truth, there are no "good guys" its like choosing the lesser of two evils. everything is grey- there are no fine lines and decisions are clouded by equally inteligent opinions and lack of cooperation

I know this is old news to the Brits but the Times of London has an article about Ann Clwyd, a liberal Labour Party MP (an MP is like our US Representative here in the US) that traveled to Iraq and heard horror stories of Saddams brutality. This uncluded the crucifying of a 15 year old boy when he fainted during torture in prison. It's a good read if you want to get a little more educated on what motivates the Bush/Blair position on Iraq.

I am to say the least shocked at some of the asinine comments from these european morons. You have to be a complete moron to say Americans are ignorant or stupid. Especially you british pussy chaps, we own your ass, not arse ASS, but I guess it's the old sibiling rivalry thing. You don't get to be so rich and powerful by being stupid and ignorant. But it shows the ignorance and stupidity of the european people to call us stupid and ignorant. You euro trash with your pronunciations like arse instead of ASS what the hell is an arse!, your kilos instead of POUNDS, kilometers instead of MILES, you people are backwards. Our society is rich in culture, musical talent, performing arts, in movie production and Educational Institutions. I have seen some of the junk you people call movies, it's pathetic, low budget crap. We have the greatest cities in the world Los Angeles, New York City which are modern day Rome. The internet wich you idiots are using right now was invented by the U.S.A. Bill Gates the owner of Microsoft the richest man in the world is an American, I guess he is an ignorant American also right? You euro idiots don't have a leg to stand on so give it up. Our military is the most Powerful that the world has ever seen. You people are lucky we aren't arrogant like you accuse us of being because we would of conquered and invaded half of the world by now, but on the contrary we are a meek and generous people. We are your Daddy and you do what we tell you to do! if you want our protection and assistance. You people will NEVER accomplish the things that the U.S.A. has, your people are to stupid and ignorant, that's what makes you so jealous and angry HAHAHAHA! And you frenchies, if we didn't save your asses in WWII then why did you give us the Statue of Liberty as a gift? because you were grateful we saved your asses that's why. I read some of the statements made from you euro trash on how President Bush is a bigger danger than saddam, god how I wish you people would get your hearts desire and have saddam obtain weapons of mass destruction and then gas and nuke your worthless people, and then hear your people crying and moaning for the U.S. to help them, I wish we would just say fuck you that's your problem but knowing our Government's compassion and generousity there we would go to help you, you ungrateful bastards. You europeans need to stop driving in the passenger side of a car and drive on the right side of the road. It would take too long to list the reasons why America is Superior to europe so I'm gonna have to say see ya peace out punk Biatches!

Oh yeah I forgot you peoples sports HAHAHA! soccer what a punk pussy game. I would like to see one of your players play one down in the N.F.L. (That's the National Football League) they would go home in a body bag, any sport where you don't use your hands is for pussies. Your frail bony euro bodies would get crushed like twigs by our American so called overweight bodies! ;p LOL

American Empire,

Are you sure your from America? It sounds like you encapsulated the narrow ignorant way a Euro might percieve American attitudes.

If you are American, your an idiot.

Come on, American Empire. Don't respond with emotionally wacked-out statements to stupid anti-American posts. That just makes those idiots look like they actually have a point, which they do not other than being stupid. Some guys here are actually having intelligent debate; don't lump them in with the idiots.

I mean, I forget the example, but there was this guy further up who wrote Americans are stupid because someone asked him if he could drive to a place which was clearly separated by an ocean or water (I forget the statement specifically). So one guy judges a nation by one person's lack of geography? What a fool, as if that is the only way to measure a person's intelligence and worth anyway. Maybe the man who exposed his lack of knowledge of geography was an excellent auto mechanic who'd laugh at that conceited poster's inability to fix basic things in his car.

I've met many fresh vistors from Europe who have asked me about driving to American places thousands of miles away from my home. Some tourists just don't realize the size of America. I also laugh at many of the Hollywood stereotypes as many get their history and understanding from it. I laugh inside, but that does not mean they are stupid. They may be brilliant at what they do, they are usually very nice, and I like to teach them and make their stay enjoyable. I would hope they would do the same when I am outside my turf and a stranger looking to learn and enjoy a new environment and culture.

You know as well as I do that we're really cool people who like everybody except murdering tyrants. And I don't care about all the factors behind this coming war. I keep it simple because I can't really control the result anyway beyond my right to vote in the next election. If I see the Iraqi people free from Hussein's murderous torturing grip, that is good enough for me as a human. I don't care so much about who may have made or lost out elsewhere on the action. Simply put, no humans should be made to live in tyranny like that, and I hope the UN one day will live up to its purpose by taking the key role of pretecting the world from tyrants. Its handling of Iraq situation for the past 12 years proves it is not yet up to the task, and it is still at the whims of slefish and irreconcilable national self-interests, and give seats, a voice, and de jure legitimacy to tyrannical regimes who do not deserve the recognition of sovereignty when they abuse their poeple and keep poeer solely as a result of force and terror over their innocent population. They are brutal hostage-takers, not governments.

I like American football too and played it in high school. But give soccer a break. It's not pussy game. I played soccer too and loved it. If it's a pussy game the it say little of America because more American youths play soccer than American football and baseball COMBINED and its popularity is still increasing. We have an upstart league and we also are doing much better on the national front. Our team made the Quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup. Even in the quarterfinal game, we got eliminated 1-0 by the Germans in a tough game where a German fullback blocked a US goal with his hand and the referee missed it. That sucked. We were decent squad and represented ourselves well as a new nation to the game.

In the end whether the US is right or wrong, whether it has legal justification or not, the world, including Iraq, will be a better place without Sadaam Hussein. He invades Iran, he invades Kuwait, squanders his nation's wealth, gasses people and is precisely the type of individual we need to rid the world of.

Most of the posts here reek of nationalist pride. "The UK civilized half the world," also starved half the Irish, also launched an aggresive war called the Opium War to ensure a market in China for a narcotic.

"Americans are wicked and evil place. "

Apparently the rest of the world is smarter than me and apparently you don't have much food to eat either. Well, then it should be VERY hard to explain our superior per capita GNP because I don't know about most Americans, but I for one, LOVE going to work and being told by my boss to sit around and to eat potato chips and get fat on the company - that is a DAILY occurence here right?.

Well fortunately we can be glamorous because after all we actually ARE of European descent, we can be wise because we ARE of Asian descent, we can be as spiritual as Arabs because we ARE of Arabian descent and trust me there are plenty of people of Russian descent too and MORE!

If you hate the US, you hate yourself.

Things I have personally seen in America right in NYC:

1. inter-marriages between English/Irish, Arab/Jew, Indian/Pakistani, Japanese/Korean, Asian/White, Black/White, Hispanic/White, Serb/Slovene, Greek/Turk

However in response to:

"And you frenchies, if we didn't save your asses in WWII then why did you give us the Statue of Liberty as a gift? because you were grateful we saved your asses that's why."

Just to set the record straight, the French did not give the US the Statute of Liberty because we liberated France during WWII.

Trust me, my ignorant American. The UK public are not behind US action in Iraq and a recent poll showed that when asked who is a bigger danger to world peace-Bush or Saddam 64% voted Bush. {We should rephrase the vote: would you prefer to live in a country under Bush or Sadaam, if you still vote for Sadaam, then you have a problem} The thing that American's don't seem to realise is that those "pussies" that are "afraid" of doing anything have SEEN WAR! {So have Americans} America has not seen War. America sat back and did sod all while over 40,000 British civilians were killed by German bombers, thats at least 15 WTCs. {Well, the English did win a tremendous victory in the Battle of Britain, but don't say that America didn't enter the war because American blood did spill to rid the world of fascism} America wouldn't lend Britain and her empire 40 warships as they stood ALONE against the Nazis. {We were neutral and in hindsight we probably should have come to Britain's aid sooner, but the isolationists did need to be dealt with} The whole of the Commonwealth {Well, the Commonwealth is the Commonwealth and the US is NOT in the Commonwealth} declared war on germany within a day of Britain's declaration, including both Palestinians and Jews. Thats the Nazis. We aren't talking about some little terror organisation. America doesn't know terrorism. {We do NOW} The British have lived with it for years. Was American funding for the IRA stopped? No. {The Englishman makes a valid point that individual contributions were made by US citizens, particularly in Boston and New York, to support the IRA and subsequently terrorist acts in Northern Ireland and the UK, but it should be noted that this was not US Government policy} The nations of Europe have seen war, invasion, daily air strikes. European nations understand war. America thinks it's just like the movies. Lets remember the last war you went alone on .......Vietnam. {Vietnam, here we go, but please do not let the French off the hook here and really when you look at the state of South Korea vis-a-vis North Korea and you look at the current state of Vietnam, are they really better off?} No need to say anymore. I could also mention the deaths of British/Australians/Canadians by the trigger happy hands of American "friendly-fire". {Friendly fire is always unfortunate and its true, it has happened! But it should point to the fact that greater coordination efforts need to be made between Allied forces to prevent such tragic occurences in the future} The fact that you re-write history to present America in a better light. {As if this were a uniquely American crime} The fact that you butcher the English language. {Well, the UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia are all long-standing democracies at this point, perhaps we should vote on it?} Your corrupt government {no worse than any other and maybe you should go to Latin America}, the list goes on.

If America was a true Superpower it would be making nations not destroying them. When Britian was the World's superpower it made Australia, America, she civilised half the world. {CONQUERED HALF THE WORLD and for the record at the height of the British empire it encompassed 25% of the world} I'm not going to say we didn't do some shitty things because no nation can. {PLENTY OF SHITTY THINGS and yes, the list would go on and on and on.......}

I'm sorry if/that the government of the country I was born in hurt your country in any way. My words are as useless to you as your words are to me. I've never seen your face. I've never heard your voice. But when I look at my family, I feel the same love you feel when you look at your family. Nobody HAS to die, but when big groups of people get together and let one man speak for everyone ... people will die in war, as they always have. I live in America because I was born in America, everyone I love is in America. If everyone I knew and loved moved to Iraq that's where I would go. But, I love America, because it is my home. WAR SUCKS!

a Human Being who lives in , and loves America ... since being an American automatically stereotypes you as a demon :'(

For the record: France did not give the US the Statue of Liberty after WWII. Completed in 1886, it was created by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi in France and delivered to the US as a gift.

Recent polls in the UK show that 75% of Brits favor ousting Saddam militarily with UN support. The barbaric Iraqi gaovernment isnt made better or worse by a UN vote. If you support leaving that animal in power over Iraq you are a barbarian.

The UN was created to keep rogue nations in check. France and it's jew-hating allies have taken it upon themselves to make a new mandate fot the UN to keep the US in check. And by the way France has enough nuclear arsenal to wipe out the face of the earth. Whos going to keep those weasles in check?

One more thing, the US pays 2/3's of the UN's bills. If they keep stabbing us in the back do you really think we're going to keep supporting it? I heard a lot of talking heads this weekend suggesting that the US pull out of the UN altogether. This whole episode just prives that it is a complete joke. Before the cold war ended the UN was useless because USSR would veto everything. The Gulf war was the first time the UN was half way usefull. Since then is has just become the same BS that it was during the cold war except this time the USSR is replaced by an equally socialist France.

I mean 3 times in the 90's the UN nuclear inspectors declared that Iraq was not developing nuclear weapons and 3 times they were proved wrong now were supposed to just take thier word for it.

What really is sad to see at the moment in the 'UN' is the stance by Angola, Cameroon and Guinea, Pakistan and chille. In relation to the vote on the iraq, all these countries at the moment say they cannot really make their minds up on the issue of if their should be a second 'UN' reolution, and Mexico seems to be against war on iraq, but many in its political party are in favour of the 'US' backed resolution. All these countries have been have been on the generous side of america, the french have been favourable to 'Guinea' becasue its an ex-colony and it speaks french but still they hold out to see how deep the american pocket is.

All these countries now wait to see what they can get from the united states, Britain is taking flak for standing shoulder to shoulder with america and we expect no pay off, but these other countries just hold out their hand to see what they can get. I understand in part the Turkish stance ,since they are close to iraq and the problems they have with the kurds but still even now the Turks are haggaling over the price of toilet paper that the american troops will buy in Turkey.

America should make a well thought out speach in the 'UN' that says something like 'It believes that other countries in the world should come together to take a lead to help police the troubled areas of the world, and to take actions against threats that can be seen on the political horizon'. That should make all those whinning people who continualy bash america take notice, Im all in favour of constructive critisism. But I think the 'US' military planners have too much influence in washington and want to be every where in the world and so would not be looking at with drawing from any forigen policy.

America should always play an active roll in world affairs but perhaps if it stepped back a little it might encourage others countries to muture in forigen policy, it would also i am sure make some people realise in the world what a difference it makes when america is not their ready to jump straight into the politics of the issue, the fact is that the 'States' is the biggest economic power in the world and when they grab hold of a political issue people in the world tend to take notice.

A recuring theme amoung american posts on this board is the 'British Empire' American people 'Please take out your history books and blow the dust off the covers and start at page one' their were lots of empires, most european countries had empires, the arabs had an empire that included countries in africa.

The 'Mongolians' had an empire that was the largest the world has ever seen. The incas had an empire so did the myans the aztecs. Im sure their are unknown civisations back in time that had empires where people fought and people died. I know the south americans had empires that came to an end when new empire builders turned up in the form of the 'Conquestidores'.

One post on the website says that the 'UK' starved half the 'Irish' their are people in the world right NOW who say america is killing people by not allowing copies of drugs to be sold in countries with a national health crisis, A german comapny called 'Bayer' that produces a drug called 'Cipro' that has become the american drug of choice for 'Anthrax' infection was in talks with the US goverment about a deal to supply the US.

When bayer wanted the full price for the drug, the american goverment said no thank you, we will produce a generic copy of the drug our selves, the US goverment would take away the intellectual property rights of 'Cipro' away from Bayer in the 'US' meaning that any company in the 'US' could produce it and sell it.

Well 'Bayer had no choice, it had to sell the drug at low prices or lose its intelectual property rights in the united states, it would have been compensated for this by the 'US' but the goverment would have determined the price. But the clinton and bush administartion are on record opposing south africas plans and other nations attempts at producing generic copies of american drugs, to help combat Aids crisis and other diseases.

You could say double standards, but back to my main point, britain no more satrved the irsh, than america is helping to kill south africans and other people in 3rd world countries. The EU govermnet is willing to compromise on some drugs for specific countries and the 'US'posistion on this is flatley 'NO'. But america has the right to defend the intelectual knowledge of its economy, depending on your perspective.

The comment above is by the Englishman

Englishmen,

I am in complete agreement that the US should back down our foreign policy and let other countries step up. For example, the U.S. should have never touched the Kosovo crisis. That should have been left to the France and Germany to name a few. But did the afformentioned countries step up?

Anyway, thanks for pointing that out so well. However, Iraq in my opinion poses a threat to our people and our way of life and the lives of our 'allies' ( I use that term losely). This is one crisis that Saddam has brought upon himself and we will deal with him if no one else will.

I still hold to my belief that Saddam could be crucifying his people (wait he's doing that) - let's just say he can do nothing, no matter how horrifying that would make France in particular budge on this. This is about them keeping the U.S. in it's place and it's a shallow and dishonest position to take.

Arguement between a French person, and an American.

French- You would still be a British colony if it weren't for us.

American- You would have Germans marching in Pairs now if it weren't for us.

French- You got your ass kicked in Vietnam.

American- After they kicked yours.

French- Your to arregent.

Amerian- No, your to arregent.

Saddam- (Laughes behind thier back).

Does anyone see my point?

Forget about the distance past for a minute here, 'observer'. Here and now in 2003 France, Germany and Russia have enormous weapons-for-oil contracts and they will fight to prevent a war with Iraq no matter what. If they can keep delaying the war until June, they are hopeful it will be too hot in Iraq for America and Britain to carry out an effective war and perhaps they will put it off for another several months giving them time to diffuse the issue.

And Im sure it's in the back of their minds that if they can only delay until after the 2004 presidential elections America will elect another pasifist president and things will go back to status quo.

Theres a saying that at whatever point you judge another YOU are often guilty. The jew-hating trio I mentioned earlier like to accuse america of blood-for-oil. They are in fact willing to delay the inevitable death and distruction Iraq will inevitably unleash on it's neighbors and the rest of the world for a few barrels of oil. And that is an absolute, undisputable fact!

It's just makes me ill. And on and on we go with these endless talks in the League of Nations AKA U.N.

WInston S. Churchill, grandson of THE Winston Churchill pointed out on NBC's Today show this morning that the League of Nations was abandoned because it passed countless resolutions but followed through with none of them. The U.N. is destined to be a forgotten waste of time for the same reason.

No Im not a jew-hater.

Englishman:

We know you didn't starve the Irish. That's bullshit, and my family is of Irish extraction. Most of us here value your long term friendship --especially now -- and never bought that BS, although I suspect the British news would report a fanatic trying to claim such. The Famine was a natural and economic disaster for many reasons, but there was certainly no actual intent to starve millions of people. I cringe hearing that, because I think of the IRA and other scum who push that lie. Most of the jerks in the US who funded that horrible organization were illegal immigrants in our cities from Northern Ireland. They went around telling people to donate money for Irish aid, etc., without explaining what all that was. Slippery people, and anti-American and internationally dangerous too when you read their material and see their support of FARC and others.

Oh yeah. I saw that KPR and Englishman were discussing whether the US ought to pass some of the policing to other nations, and Kosovo was cited. That's a good idea because it should be a shared responsibility. Many do send peacekeepers ans stay involved periodically and that is good. However, many do tend to toss hard questions on the US' lap and stay in the safe and free confines of the local cafe to judge what occurs. That is unfair. We have asked for help from other nations to handle North Korea. We are getting no help. Everyone has refused and thrown the hot potato on our lap because it is too hot. And I'm sure the usual hot-aired moralizer will sit around referring daily events and making judgments about us in the manner in which we will be forced to address it. That's sad. We need help and good faith from our friends. The problem of brutal and aggressive dictators must be addressed properly and not with half-measures.

Since Kosovo was mentioned, I recall that the US received flak initially when it stayed out of Kosovo, then it stepped in and recieved flak for being an international cop and was criticised as civilian killers and nation destroyers. I'm still happy we went because it helped save the Albanian Kosovars from the murder, rape, eviction and general ethnic cleansing they were experiencing, got Milosevic and other criminals, and stopped the similar slaughters, rapes and pillaging occurring in Bosnia. I also remember that NATO was there and many other nations helped too, but we all collectively waited too long to get serious about it and so much death and destruction occurred in the meanwhile.

I get this creeping feeling, however, that the US will be damned whether we stay out or go into any given hostile or troubled area. If we stay out, then many will call us selfish isolationists who only care about themselves. If we go in, then many will call us imperialist warmongers seeking to impose our will on others. I think the British can identify sometimes with this frustrating position because other nations love to take their various gifts but bash them too.

I, too, am disappointed that the UN won't take the mantle of addressing tyrants. NATO had to even handle Kosovo in the face of butchery because we all feared a Russian veto. Sadly, the UN is still a debating society because its ability to act is too paralyzed by the various irreconcilable national interests of its members. I'm sure Hitler is red with envy from deep below in the pit why the UN was unavailable in his day, because Saddam is loving it right now.

I think that this will be allright, though, because the silent majority is always there. It's the loudmouths who get the spotlight, but those who do the right thing are usually vindicated in the annals of history.

For example, people hated Churchill when he called Hitler for what he was in the 1930s and sought preemtive action to stanch his increasing power. The British people nearly ran him out of town and the continental Europeans despised his "warmongering" stance. He was seen as a warmongering provocateur who would cause an unneccesary war, even by Neville Chamberlain. Hitler only sought peace with his demands, so he said. We all know today, however, had Churchill taken the lead to clamp down on Hitler before he got too big that history would have been much different.

I still have to keep in mind that people like peace for a reason. War is war, the most horrible event that can occur in human relationships. I love peace. Who but a sick person could love war, except those chickenhawks who have never experienced its total horrors? General Robert E. Lee once said, after looking at the horrible body-strewn site of a brutal battlefield, that it is a great thing that war is so terrible -- lest people grow too fond of it. Even Churchill upon his death commended Chamberlain, a broken man so disappointed with his dashed hopes of peace, that the man's only fault was his kind-hearted and ennobling desire to forge a lasting peace with a sinister tyrant. It was just Churchill realistically accepted the grim truth that tyrants take kindness for weakness and view matters of good conscience as irrelevant.

Sometimes, sadly, we have to address sick thugs who pose threats and abuse their people before they get the power to do what Hitler did once he was able to do so. With the chemical, bilogical and nuclear technologies today, waiting can be far deadlier than it was in 1939. I don't look foward to this fight I'm sure is coming, but I hate Saddam even more for it for all the continuing suffering he causes this world with his behaviors.

Sic semper tyrannis.

i think everyone is agreed that saddam is a totolitarian tyrant, and should be taken out of power, the question is how, and for what purpose. apparently russia and france have economic reasons for wanting peace, and a US senator said that the government said that when it won the war against iraq, that it would charge the nation for being occupied, and that their oil would be a sufficient payment. the last time the US went to war with iraq, vowing that they were only trying to overthrow the regime, not destroy the nation, US troops killed around 35,000 iraqi civillians, not military personnel, but unarmed innocent people, just trying to stay alive. even in afghanistan, the US "accidently" killed a myriad of civilians, but in truth, i believe that they just dont care, weather it is the government, or the military, this is unacceptable.

an interesting tidbit i read in the paper the other day(the cincinnati enquirer): 25% of americans read at or below a fifth grade level(around age 10) and another 25% reads at or below an 8th grade level(around age 13) pretty embarassing(as well as hilarious)

The number of civilians killed in Iraq is somewhere between 3000 (U.S. figure) and 35,000 (Iraqi figure). Neither number is good but 3,000 Americans, Brits, Arabs and others from around the world died in NYC and they are all but forgotten by most outside the U.S.

Punker,

Judging by a lot of the Euros writing on this page, 'Englishman' being the exception, the reading and writing skills are a little weak across the pond, too.

To _______

Either that or alot of young Euros are posting comments.

Punkrocker:

I agree that how to take Saddam out is the key question, and how best to do that is a complicated question. I, too, share your concern about the loss of life that occurs in war. Make no bones about it. War equals deaths in the name of a cause.

But, please, it seems that you may think that Americans are callous about the deaths that wars cause. There is much in the foreign news playing up this angle and we hear it all the time. I am quite amazed by that. There is nothing further from the truth. Much of what I read goes much further than criticism of a government action; it seeks to ridicule and demumanize the American people, using Iraq as the vehicle to spread its wings to broad attacks and spewing venom.

First, we are humans who bleed like the next person. The thought chills me that I could be thrust into a position where I could kill a person I'd rather be playing soccer with or having a good conversation. We're all some mother's son. Moreover, we are aware that we will be the ones exposed to death like the Iraqis. I know people in the Gulf and I'd like them back. I don't needs funerals and no one else does either. Dying at 90 years old is cool. Dying at 18-30 years old is not. We will also be the greater targets on the civilian front.

We also spend much time designing weapons that minimize civilian casualties. These things are far more expensive to produce than 'dumb' weaponry. Most nations do not bother to build such things. The civilian casualty list in Iraq and Afghanistan is very low. Those who sympathize with Saddam and al Queda have indeed put false information out there to prey on the ill-informed and those who harbor anti-american prejudices. Many in Europe and elsewhere unfortunately seem to be quick to accept such information from Hussein and Islamic extremists. I ask you, WHY???? If they are a more credible sources of information, and they are to be accepted and ours rejected, and those groups championed while we are vilified, then my hopes for a more safe future will diminish significantly. The extremists and tyrants will succeed, as tyranny has the advantage. We build these weapons because we value life. Our whole system of beliefs as written in our founding documents hold that all humans are created equal and given certain inalienable rights from our Creator such as life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We believe in democracy, a Bill of Rights and freedoms of the press, speech, travel, protest, property, lifestyle, career choices, freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures, trial rights, etc. We as humans do not practice this perfectly, as history shows, but those values have motivated and challenged Americans society to live up to them even to this day. We even went to the point of once dying in a bloody civil war to see that those ideals prevailed.

That's nothing to be cynical about either, all humans should be able to enjoy the one life they get as best they can so long as it does not hurt another, and that is the point. Using our own civil war as an example, many disfavored any conflict because it would result in many deaths and the destruction of the land. However, the alternative was to allow southern slaveholding interests to break the nation into two and permanently enslave a people. The north had appeased them for a long time, but it wasn't curing the problem. Lincoln chose to do the right thing and save the nation and free the slaves. People died by the scores of thousands in order to do so, including Lincoln in the end by the hands of a fanatic. However, I have no doubt that Lincoln and all those who died in that cause were right, and despite all the deaths, including civilian ones, and property damage. Let me ask you. If you were Lincoln, would you have avoided the war and allowed the Southern slaveholding interests to prevail? How about World War II and Serbia? Should America have left the Europeans to Hitler's designs in order to save their own hides and prevent loss of life? Should Milosevic have been allowed to finish his job?

I just think that as bad as war is, with tyranny you have to do what needs to be done, even fight if necessary. We've had 12 years with Saddam and I don't trust him at all given his horrendous track record. Most certainly he'll be even more back in action when inspectors leave. He laughs at all of us. And he rapes, tortures, explints and kills his people ruthlessly. It's unacceptable to me as a human to feel it is OK to get rid of western thugs who threaten us, but turn the other cheek with others. We've all done that too much, and enough is enough. At best he'll only kill far more himself, and at worst he'll kill many of us along with his own people. He has proven he has no problem doing so when he can time and time again.

As for spelling, we all make typos. I'm sure I already have as I'm not proofreading. Others are not good spellers. But KPR is right. Many non-Americans can't either. That is part of the anti-American prejudice that has become very popular. I'd just ask you if you are living up to your liberal ideals if that is how you really feel. I have made no effort to insult you myself.

Well, surely we can all do better than the nasty information we've posted in many of these messages. I've been fortunate to live and work in the Britain, Canada, and the U.S. over the past 20 years. I've also been blessed to work with many fine people in Asia, Australia, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Sweden and France. There's a lot to be said in favor of all of these countries and their people. There is no reason for "dis-ing" anyone.

But, as we start to see another (yes, this has been seen before) epidemic of anti-Americanism sweeping across the globe, let's get a quick historical perspective regarding where the risks have been over the past 200 years.

Since 1800

Since 1800 the United States of America has had one constitution, one central bank, and elected representatives. For all of its problems, the U.S.A. has been an incredibly stable place. The US fought a brutal and deadly Civil War to free itself from slavery and the evils that accompanied it. We Americans have preferred to avoid alliances and foreign involvement, until WWII. You see, America became the leading industrial power early in the 20th Century, but was reluctant to live up to the responsibilities that came with the territory.

Old Europe has been incredibly volatile since 1800. After the Napoleonic wars, Europe moved on to give the world Fascism, Communism, and Nazism. Tens of millions of innocents were slaughtered in the Soviet Union before WWII. Then, the Germans gave us death camps, and the French sent their Jewish neighbors off to the gas chambers. The genocide in Europe continued right up to the end of the 20th Century in the Balkans, until Old Europe, Britain, and the U.S.A. decided to go around the UN and use force in Kosovo.

Peace Movement USA

In the 1930s the most successful peace movement in history flourished in the USA. Fascism flourished in Japan, Italy, and Germany, and we did nothing. Japan invaded China, and we did nothing. Italy and Germany invaded their neighbors, and we did nothing. The huge American peace movement of the 1930s kept us out of war through the start of WWII in 1939. In fact, WWII turned 2 years old, America was still "at peace." Millions died and the forces of darkness in the world got stronger as Americans slept safe in our beds away from all the nasty stuff out there. After all, no one was attacking us. Freedom seemed to be free.

December 7, 1941

Japan made one of the great strategic errors of the 20th Century and attacked America, ending the American peace movement in one day. Unfortunately, this peace movement allowed conditions to develop that lead to a horrendous war with more than 30 million casualties. We should all honor the Soviet, British, and Commonwealth citizens who fought against Fascism. We should also honor the 1,000,000 Americans who were killed or wounded to help our European allies liberate their continent from the Fascists. Go walk among the graves of these young Canadians and Americans in Normandy sometime. If it doesn't change your view of the world, then shame on you.

Cold War Starts

Just after WWII the Soviet Union, led by one of history's greatest mass-killers, made another huge Strategic Error. The USSR turned-down the American offer of Marshall Plan help, deciding to oppose the U.S.A. This decision sealed the fate of the USSR and Communism, although it would be 45 years before socialist mirage would collapse of its own weight.

1945

So, what did the U.S.A. do after occupying Germany, Austria, Italy and Japan at the end of WWII? Well, first it loaned all of these countries the money to rebuild their economies, then it traded with them, and once democracies were established these countries assumed control of their own fate.

Never in human history had a single country dominated the world the way that the U.S.A. did in 1945. Over 50% of world economic output was American. And it was the world's only nuclear power. When Rome conquered Carthage the second time, Romans razed the place to the ground and salted the soil so that no city could exist there in the future. Is this what the U.S. did? No. What the U.S. and its Allies did was to build a world with free choice, freedom of speech, and economic prosperity in the very countries that had directly threatened them. Good choice.

In 1993 neo-Fascist Islamic terrorists bombed the World Trade Center, and the US did little about it. A series of attacks followed around the world, and still the US government didn't get itself together. Then September 11th happened and it became obvious that a new Fascism threatened democracy everywhere, even in America. Once again, it had become obvious that freedom is not free.

Anti-Terrorist Wars

So, with the attack on America on Sept 11, we are seeing the start of struggles that will include wars, policing actions, and economic aid with the goal of eliminating the new, neo-Fascist threat to the free world. Some parties, such as Al Qaeda and Iraq have to be destroyed by force. Others, such as Iran, may be able to move peacefully to a pluralistic society that is willing to coexist with the West. But make no mistake about it, we must win this struggle. We will win it because the alternative to victory is new, Dark Age for the human race. Luckily for Britain, Tony Blair sees this clearly, as do several other leaders in the West.

Sleep Well

So, as you go to sleep tonight in Western Europe, Japan, Australia or Canada, don't allow yourself to worry about the horrible Americans being a threat to world peace. Just get down on your knees and thank God that the strongest nation in the history of the world isn't Nazi Germany, Fascist Japan, or some neo-Fascist Islamic state. No, just thank God that this superpower is a republic started by a few thousand farmers around the simple ideal that "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" are the foundations of human society. And that ideal applies not just to Americans, but to Afghanis and Germans. May all of you and your children live long and prosper under the protection of American hegemony.

God Bless you all,

Main Man

KUDOS, Main Man.

I heard a theory moments ago that France, Germany and Russia may be trying to create a new super power to balance the US. I know this sounds a little wild but given France and Germany's strange behavior of late, it makes perfect sense to me. Anti-French/German sentiment here in the US is really heating up. France and Germany have been favorite topic of Leno and other comedy shows such as MAD TV. Germany is overdue for some kind of power grab and Russia would love to be back to thier old glory. France is such a socialist nation anymore that it wouldnt take much to push them over the edge.

To KPR

A little wild? I don't want to be extreamly rude hear, but that is just compleatly stupid. There are no "secret aggrements" happening between France, Germany, and Russia. Flip through a few history books, review the facts. That theary is just not going to happen. Those three nations bonding to make a superpower is just as likely as Canada attaking The U.S.A. Besides, think how much effort that would take. The three nations would have to agree on a language, currancy, and government. And if they were, why would they do it in seceracy? I am fairly sure that if they would do that they would make it public. So sorry to burst your bubble KPR, that is almost definatly not going to happen.

Observer,

I'm not stating a fact and it really is far fetched I'll admit. I caught a brief report about it while listening to the news at work and quickly put it on this page without giving it much thought. Nevertheless, I think they're not to be trusted - especially France. Ironically, I am primarily of French and German descent. So my feelings towards them are based soley on theyre actions and not my race.

Its been posted on this board, that 'The american peace demonstrations in the 1930 kept america out of the war with germany for two years. I think the american depression in the 1930s played the strongest part in kepping america out of the war, once the american economy had started to recover the thought of spending multi-millions didnt appeal.

Their have also been made comparisons between 'Nazi' germany' and 'Iraq' I see the connection in terms of a dictator. When countries went to war with 'Germany' the country in question had the best best trained military and equipment in the world, obveously things moved with pace in the 40s and the military balance was redressed, but my point being they were a threat to world peace.

Iraq on the other had has an illequiped army second rate airforce, and most impotantly nowadays an air defence, that exists mostly in name only. Goverments in the late 30s and early 40s speculated about the extent of german forces, they had no real idea of their new command structure, that came about from new blood in the ranks after their losses in WWI, and the fact that their class system was eroded by new political parties. It was left up to the RAF reconnissance and british intellegence at the start of the war to desperatly scramble together a picture of their transportation system and war economy

America must be able to produce the most detailed maps of Iraq that the world has ever seen, in fact I should think no other country in the world must have been mapped from satillite and air as much as Iraq, america must be able to produce whole volumes of books of iraq militay personnel structures, every large new industrial builing must have been scrutinised for its posistion its size what goes in what goes out, what is the builing suitable to hold and so forth.

Iraq couldnt surprise its self at the moment let alone anyone else, america is willing to risk large numbers of lives over this, make no mistake killing an enemy in the open desert is no problem nowadays if you have the technological superiority, but when US enter the cities, then your get casualties, because of the 'US' not wanting to see pictures of civilians shot dead by american forces, Im sure an effort will be made to avoid civilian casualties, and so builing will not be able to be taken so aggressivly, but intern this careful appraoch will cost 'US' troops lives.

If i am correct more terrorists connected with sep/11 have come fom 'Saudi Arabia' than iraq, the whole war to me seems to have nothing to do with the 'US' being under attack in the future, but more to do with 'Israel' being under threat if saddam managed to improve his rockets and war heads to carry chemical weapons becasuse he might have a pop at 'Israel' in the future. As for this pilotless drone that colin powell was saying that could fly around and drop chemical gas, well I have seen better constructions in hobby shops, if that is one of the best cases that powell can talk about on prime time television then Im not that impressed with the need for war.

Countries no longer offer thier technical expertise to 'Iraq' which is now forced to scrap the barrel for technical knowhow. When are we going to tackle 'india and pakistan' they might not be looking to invade any other countries except each other by they are a threat to world peace and stability, the world is changing and lots more countries will aquire the knowledge for destructive weapons.

Remember cambodia where 2 million civilians died in their hollocaust I never saw any resolutions to go to war against their goverment. The fact isnt if saddam should be romoved but if you can attack another country just because you believe that it could pose a potential threat in the future.

Although i dont know, I think that the jewish american lobby in washington is very much behind this war, I have read some 'Arab' comments about the 'Iraq' war and they do make a good case that 'Israel' has broken countless sanctions but the 'US' has never made a fuss about them so nothing has got done.

If we do go to war I hope its quick, and I hope the iraqi people rejoice at being liberated and TV pictures of this are shown around the world, so that america can be vindicated from the image that the anti-american camp in the world has been bulding up, and that britain was right to have stood by america when some countries in the world rallied around the 'French to say 'NON' to war.

But if this war is not quick, and the only TV pictures going around the world are of civilians dead, because the iraqi troops started hideing in between them, and tony blair is standing and grinning at the helm of HMS Brtain while it sinks in international opinion, then I will be thinking to myself why didnt we wait just one more month or america take a whole different strategy to tackling 'Iraq'.

Englishman:

I agree that Iraq is much weaker than it was. However, that is all the more reason for some to take him out now while you can. Saddam wants and is trying to develop WMD as best he can. We all know that for sure. What we don't know it what he has hidden although we have good ideas and how he does so. We all know he hides his stuff and is a slippery as catshit about it. Embarrasingly, people are selling him dangerous technology, including the French and Germans, who are also doing that with Iran. Even the Russians are helping Iran and have helped Iraq. Much of that is on the ho-hum in the news, and I'm not sure why. Money is a major motivator with those three nations who oppose an invasion.

Also, how long can we keep inspectors in Iraq? We would need thousands all over and permanently. We all know if that deal was made, Saddam would play games, and then eventually whine and kick them out once the political momentum for invasion has gone. He's already done that before.

My worry is that in today's society, technology has now advanced to the extent that it can instantly convert an isolated rogue into a fearsome power. Iran is shortly away from nukes, and so are others.

Look what North Korea has just done now that it is nuclear. Now it's a brassy warlike nation, all in the matter of a short time. Do anyone think it is now easier to refuse the dictates of Kim Jong Il, or stop any aggression he may start on the Korean Peninsula and in the Far East, or get him to step down and stop starving millions of his people? No, it is much harder now, and Kim knows it. The US has asked for help from everyone who, in turn, have run away like scared cats offering no help. (Later on, I don't want to hear anyone even dare open their mouths to complain about how the US will have chosen to handle them because they all ran away when it asked for international help). The other thugs want the same thing to advance their thuggery and exploitation.

The Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty has failed. All the thugs know what the need to get to not only stay in business, but also to succeed. WMD in the hands of murderous tyrants and unstable regimes will ensure the destruction of our global societies sooner or later. May of these societies are also unstable. This means terrorist and bandit groups within them will also get WMD easily.

True point about Cambodia. No one did anything to stop the Killing Fields. The US were right about the Khymer Rouge when it went in earlier, but the US population hadn't the stomach for re-involvement in that theatre at that time. The UN did nothing as usual. Nothing was done about Rwanda either with its nearly million lives extinguished. NATO had to step into Yugoslavia when everyone knew Russia would veto in the UN. The UN will veto away any action to enforce its Iraqi resolutions. And it certianly will do nothing to Kim Jong Il because of the threat he poses. It's time for the UN to do its job or else it is not only irrelevant but actually a hindrance to global order.

While hoping for a victorious outcome in Iraq should war begin, Englishman once again reiterates the position held by most outside of the US that we should pull out ot the Iraqi situation and go home. I am beginning to understand why Euro's might have that point of view.

In WWII the US was not directly affected by the 'Axis' until struck by Japan in Hawaii. Even with the horrible news streaming out of Europe, most in America wanted to stay out of the war. This position was based on a combination of comfort and fear and a lack of urgency - out of site- out of mind and all that.

Europe witnessed from afar a terrible attack on the US by a rogue terrorist organization. But as the US was in WWII, Europe has not been struck directly and again the combination of fear and comfort keeps you from wanting to take part in any war. You have not been affected directly and thus you dont sense the urgency felt here in America by most- Hollywood and San Francisco being the only exceptions.

You also cant ignore the resentment many Europeans feel towards President Bush for believing in moral absolutes. This drives them insane with hate for Mr. Bush. Morality is absolutely relative in most of Euro. For that reason there just isnt any respect for our president. 'Morality = a simple mind' in much of Euro.

Mr Sarcastic: It takes much more character and strength to sway with public opinion and winds of fear than to stand for something you believe.

By the way speaking of peace protest, a group of Arab Americans recently marched in Manhatten in support of Bush's position. I'll bet you didnt heat that reported in the 'Mirror' or the London Times.

Good points KPR. Most people, including Americans, often pass the buck on pain unless it's theirs. Too bad most humans don't see what's occasionally in store for them down the road. Records on Hitler confirm that he intended to attack the US in the 1950s after his position in Europe was confirmed. Yet, even after Pearl Harbor, Hans Thomsen, the Nazi charge d'affairs in Washington, wired to Berlin that the many US papers were writing opinions disfavoring a declaration of war on Germany, and that many Americans opposed declaring war on Germany thereby opening a deadlier second front. Thankfully, Hitler went ahead and declared war anyway. Many "peacenik" Americans regarded Roosevelt as a provocateur just like many British had thought of Churchill, but sometimes the politicians are right. Others would have called them just plain self-centered, the same thing being said today about the current anti-war types. I don't think that is fair to say about some of those who oppose an Iraq conflict today as there are many issues, but it is likely true for some. I wonder how many of those who oppose the war on Iraq will take meaningful action to protect the Iraqi people if Saddam survives once again. I suspect few will offer more than empty words.

Also, people should acknowledge that eleced officials are privy to all sorts of information that the average joe is not. The average joe does not usually have the time, resources and sometimes even interest to compile all the necessary information to make sound judgments on such issues. Much of this information cannot be released when it is a matter of classified information for a plethora of common sense reasons. This is a point that cynics refuse to recognize. We elect officials to perform such analyses and make the right decision. While it is healthy to be informed and full of questions, it is unhelpful to mistrust everything they say or do. Sometimes we will be made fools by them, but to doubt everthing as a matter of course means we the public will be the ininformed and reckless fools most of the time.

As for Bush, I have to say that history may prove him right in what he is doing, but his diplomacy in that regard has continually been putrid. You can put your foot down on bullshit, and maybe it's well overdue someone did. However, Bush has not been a smooth diplomat about it and neither have been his top boys, Powell excepted. For example, the last wisecrack by Rumsfeld that we may not need the British anyway if they step aside was STUPID and WRONG. That idiot blowhard needs a MUZZLE. Americans cringe when he speaks waiting with his next stupid comment. Rumsfeld's an idiot, and he's wrong. Maybe the US can win without Britian, but how offensive to our beloved ally. Right now Blair could get elected here faster than Bush could. We love him and the British for their candor, aid, zero tolerance of international criminals policy, and genuine friendship, especially now when so many show otherwise. Britain, we've been through think and thin and stood together against bad guys again and again, and thank you. I speak for most Americans on that point too because I hear them say so every day now.

I am surpirised that in Britain at how many people are in favour with going to war, I never saw my roll as being in the(temporary peace camp)

People tell me, 'well saddam is just messing us about we need to go in now' and Im their saying well waiting three more weeks would not pose a problem. Though in britain I think we act differently about such things, its just not the done thing to be so vocal about the war, people know how bad it could be and are not wanting to be seen as agressive when it it comes to war. Perhaps it has something to do with are history that we are tought in schools, about constant battles in britain and constant wars with our european neighbours. This is why I think the anti-war domonstrators are seen to be so big, which is not true their just so much more vocal.

As for the 'Daily Mirror' KPR, I cant stand that paper i honestly think it is anti-english sometimes, its what you call a politicaly correct London rag mag. They have this editor four years ago and he hates american goverments. I dont know if you were refering to the London Times or The Times the first i have never heard of.

'THE TIMES' is absolutly a great paper for political issues of the day, the people who right for them are people who really understand the truth in the political jungle, the Times makes the european parliment look like what it is, and the wheeling and dealing and compromise that has to go on between euro leader brings things into perspective. The great thing about the paper is that its neither one way or the other, it addresses many of the economic issues behind political decisions of countries.

London is a country in its own right, the goverment has always made sure london is ok first, this has caused resentment of the capital for decades from other people in britain.

Britain is the most ethnically mixed country in europe, so london is full of people from all over the world, and so alot are muslim and they are not big fans of the 'USA' its the capital where most of the political bullshit comes from, and so the Daily Mirror like to ride the wave of anti-american sentiment.

The Sun newspaper on the other hand is the opposite, three weeks ago they published the front of their newspaper in french, saying what america and brtain did when we turned up in 1940s and at how 'cheraic' has opposed countless american moves on anything, just so they can disagree, and on the front was a big worm with cheraics head on the front. They distributed this around paris for free you couldnt get a copy in britain, the SUN are the leading newspaper in terms of sales in this country.

O and by the way when sep/11 happened the MIRROR had american flags on the front page, and these messages like 'we feel with you', that how up and done the paper is.

When ever i have whatched 'CNN' and 'FOX' news on satillite, sometimes they say 'now we will take a look at papers around the world' they get some british newspapers out the ones that have critisisms of american policy. And leave it at that, they look at maybe one other paper from a contry like malaysia, and thats it, im left thinking to myself that, if this is what americans see when they watch these news channels then no wounder they think the worlds against them.

Our popular media is in the habit of trying to form public opinion and not simply report it. Some have forced thier hand with books like 'Bias' which reveal the liberal slant.

I'm not too familiar with the British press outside of the BBC. Lately I've been frequenting 'The Times' (not the London Times as I called it earlier) and I found 'The Mirror' while looking for answers to "why do you hate America so much". Thus explaining how I came to find this little corner of the web. The Mirror is one nasty rag!

With England, Spain and the US gathering for a war summit this weekend it looks to me like the waiting is almost over. If it makes France and Germany feel any better, maybe our countries could extend them contracts to help rebuild Iraq rather than supplying Saddam with weapons. I'm afraid they'll be much to proud to accept any offer from us.

I have to say too, along with Cool Yank, that here in the midwest and throughout this country, Americans have nothing but respect for the Brits. I mean, we both poke fun at each other but there is a mutual respect. And for the most part I could say that the same went for all of Europe until recently. Even France was adored dispite thier actions in WWII.

I think thats why it bothered me anyway, when all of this anti-americanism was puked at us from over there. Many over here felt liked we'd been stabbed in the back by a good friend.

By the way an American-Spanish buddy of mine toured Europe some years back and made it a point to sleep on the train through France on his way from Germany to Spain - not a big fan.

I concur, american media is very biased. FOr example, MSNBC, run by the microsoft corporation, only runs republican friendly-stories, and constantly bashes on democrats and their ideas, most of it is opinion and not fact. I dont fully support either party, but, as it is probably the same cases many other places, it cant be refered to for and pertinent news. I was wondering where these rumors that france, germany and russia are supplying iraq with weapons came from, ive never heard anything about it. i think most poeple misunderstand what they call anti-americanism. i am an american, and i feel that it is my responsibility to keep the government in check, as well as should every citizen of every country. THis is supposed to be a country run by and for the people, but when it comes down to important decisions, the american people can do little, but attest to their opinions and make them heard. im not anti-american, im pro-peace. i understand that sometimes there is no choice but war, and i think some(not all) people dont realize how utterly disgusting war is, im not just saying american wars but an armed conflict anywhere was most definately a direct result of ignorance. Saddam is ignorant, hitler was ignorant(among other things), stalin was ignorant, and at times, bush, chirac, blair, and all of us are complete idiots. i dont mean that we have diminished mental capacities, but that we let fear, hate, jealousy, and greed dominate our thoughts. people have been saying that past us wars have been for "the greater good" and i agree, we needed to fight to end slavery, we needed to fight to stop a crazed facist from taking over the world, but did we need to kill off a race of people(native americans) and steal their land, did we need to fight for territory, and imperialism. WE have fought for just causes before, but that does not by any means make our judgement infalible now. do not be insulted when some one criticises america, especially an american, instead take it to heart, as i do with everything said here, we need to keep open minds or we are just preaching to each other and not hearing a word the other has to say. america is a decent place, so is britain, france, germany, and many other countries. IT angers me that nationalism has gone so far here that local cincinnati ohio mechanics have refused to service foreign cars, restaurant have dubbed french fries as freedom fries, smokers now call the french inhale, the idiots inhale, french toast is freedom toast. foreign wines and other imported good have been destroyed, not is this only wasteful, but stupid as they have already paid for them.

on a side note- egypt has just arrested 50 already aquitted convicts and is retrying them. their crime: homosexual orientation. no one should be harassed for the way they are. especially if they cant change it. this is blatent bigotry and should not be tolerated.

The following is a portion of an article by William Safire:

"A contract was signed last April in Paris for five tons of 99 percent unsymmetric dimethylhydrazine, another advanced missile fuel, which is produced by France's Société Nationale des Poudre et Explosifs. Both chemicals, like HTPB, require explicit approval by the U.N. Sanctions Committee before they can be sold to Iraq."

For the full article please hit KPR below and it will link you.

The following will give further info:

http://freelebanon.org/articles/a363.htm

The above excerpt is an example of Frances double standard with the UN. They are insisting that the US get UN approval to attack Iraq and yet they ignore UN regulations by selling missile fuel to Iraq. Just one small example by the way.

I love the nationalism here in the US. Refusing to work on French cars is a sin but the hate spewing out of Europe towards the US is just dandy? The mechanics exercising theyre free speech rights is no different than some greasy peace nik carrying a pro-communism sign in San Francisco.

Why is anti-americanism so damn sacred?

Punkrocker.

American criticism is not sacred. It is necessary. Anti-americanism is unacceptable. In times of war, people's emotions get wound up and frustrations build, so you will often see the acceptable and unacceptable merge. It's human. I'm not justifying it, but we are emotional beings. Some of our people have also gone overboards with juvenile emotinalism. All this freedom fry junk is silly. First, I've yet to hear anyone use that term, and I don't hear any real ranting in the streets about the French or otherwise. If you read the news, however, it seems that is all people do. What really annoys me is while no one is really ranting about the French, "freedom" fries and boycotts (what a silly and awkward name is "freedom" fries, as I sit here with a bottle of Evian), is the stupid rednecks we have in Congress. I swear, it's sad when you know you a 13 year old has more maturity of a playschool whiny brat. If I was running for office, I'd make them the joke of the century for being so puerile. There is no real boycott, some idiot 500 miles apart excepted. Anyway, a big chunk of our businesses are international anyway. Boycotts hurt American workers who work for foreign companies. Think of all the American auto workers and sales people working for foreign car companies. How about the food and drink industry? Or any other type of business with international dimension? Stupid. And you hurt the ordinary joe whose just trying to make a living, not the politicians as much. That sucks. What is someone boycotts us? The same effect. I love the French and others regardless of this issue that will pass. It's not a reason to wreck everything, and all people in American and abroad need to recognize this. We're friends, and friends disagree once in awhile.

Sorry, that last post was to KPR and Punkrocker. Sorry about the typos too. I have to start prereading posts.

Good point KPR about the French company. That was completely unacceptable. I saw someone post that they had not heard of that. I guess the media in every nation is good at doing two things right now: (1) creating and stirring up bullshit mudslinging by covering every whacko anti-american and juvenile American flagwaiver; and (2) sifting through facts to support whatever side of the coin they want to win.

Im sure everyone has heard of the Dixie Chicks comments in London where the short fat one said that she was embarassed that Bush was from Texas. I heard a great quote from Elvis Presley back during the Vietnam War. When a female reporter asked him for his opinion of the war he responded, "ma'am, I'm just an entertainer".

No wonder he was the king.

Cool Yank,

I like your 2 points there in your last entry. The sad thing is that the news networks should also admit that they are also 'just entertainers'. They arent the least bit interested in simply reporting the news but rather creating it. i was so frustrated with NBC News tonight I had to turn it off. They made the whole world out to be one big insane wild-eyed mob.

i agree with both of you, KPR and cool yank, the media situation is bullshit. incomplete coverage of their opinions with little or no fact. no wonder they call them news "stories". KPR, i do disagree wiht you on the value of nationalism. throughout history dictators and presidents alike have used propaganda(eww i cant spell) to rally up nationalistic support, sometimes haveing good results, sometimes having bad, but every time it leads to violence and bloodshed. at a highschools across the nation, army, navy, and air force recruiters encourage teens to "fight for freedom", and to "defend our great nation" and i can't help but feel sorry for the ones who decide to make a living based on violence, what future lies ahead of them? and what psycological traumas will befall them in a lifestyle where it is common to lose your best friend, and you never think twice about spewing bullets into another mans flesh. dont get me wrong, if innocent people were under attack, i would be the first one to arms, but with a grim heart for the lives i would destroy. but here, teens are being sent to invade, not defend, we are the aggressors, not so much as a whisper of a threat has come from the horrible regime of iraq, yet still we must destroy, all in the name of "freedom".

When I was a kid watching those 'holocaust' films in history class, I always wondered how a society could grow so cold as to stand by and do nothing. It was a frightening thought.

Now when I watch the response from most in the UK and Europe to the horrors in Iraq I find myself witness to the same cold apathy. It really scares me to see intelligent Euros wild eyed, saliva dripping from the corners of thier mouths, screaching and hissing like wet cats - going after Bush with honestly, more pure hate than I have ever witnessed in my lifetime.

I can't wait to hear liberated Iraqi's praising Blair and Bush for standing for what is right in the face of such tremendous hate-fueled opposition. America should then parade french officials, Tom Daschle and the editors of The Mirror through concentration camps in Iraq and view the horrors first hand.

The 'DAILY MAIL' AND 'THE SUN' are the two biggest papers in Britain those are the ones you should take a look at. I downloaded the american national anthem onto to my computer, and play it to these Germans when they go on a anti-american rant for fun, they saw the funny side at first but now its getting to them. They say were just the 51st state i tell them, it wouldnt bother me if we were, because everything would be alot cheaper, and you wouldnt have to put up with this snobish euro attitude that, comes out of Brussels sometimes, Other europeans just dont understand that brtain held onto its class structure longer than most other nations, and so what you could call working class people of to day, are not so in tune with the euro attitude of whose got the biggest champagne glass in the european parliament, and saying how culturally superior we are to other western countries.

I really think the american intellegence organistations, really do need a big shake-up, it is said that Mossad only have 200 operatives in the world, but that the Israelis have the most effective intelegence network in the world for its size. A Saying that I have heard when i was a child is that, americans think they can solve problems by chucking money at it, well i do tend to agree in part, I really do think that the US needs to root out any pride in the US intelegence services, and wastefullness and create a slimmer more effective, counter and internal intellegence service, than is respected and feared by its enemies. Im sure that maybe a long term stratagey could have been taken to saddam to abduct or depose or have someone in his inner circle attempt to kill him with the promise that everything would be done to put him in control, or at least some other alternative. At the moment the US and UK, could be in for heavy political backlash from the international community, if this war goes 'TITS UP' and civilians are dead all over the place.

In for a PENNY in for a POUND lets get behind the troops, and hope all goes well.

While it's true that America and Britain face a political backlash from this war, it doesnt change the fact that it's the right thing to do. Repeating an earlier entry of mine, the League of Nations was forgotten because they failed to enforce the countless resolutions that they passed against Germany and Japan. I mean common sense will tell you that the UN is in the same boat.

Saddam has approved the use of chemical weapons toward the US. But wait! There are no chemical weapons- or so says Hans Blix and the numb skulls is the 'axis of greed'. How can anyone take anything the UN does or says seriously from this moment on. Holy crap! what a bunch of windbags! Build a nice enough building and you can throw a bunch of monkeys in it and France and Germany will follow them to hell.

well its here. war is now imminent and there is nothing that will stop bush from his path of destruction under the false pretext of freedom. why do we have to kill people to show them that killing is wrong? it seems a little hypocritical. anyways lets hope that casualties are kept to a minimum for both sides and that the iraqis emerge a free people, and hope that the US doesnt use this as an oppertunity to renew imperialism. so please pray to whatever diety(s) that you worship, and do what you can. I hope that this is not the begining of a third world war. May peace be restored quickly

Trust me, this isnt WWIII. War is awful and I hope it's quick. I also hope that the intense effort the military has put into convincing Iraqi troups to surrender works. I feel for the everyday Iraqi soldiers who are forced to fight or face death. It was a good sign that 17 have surrendered before the first shot.

I'm relieved that Saddam will never posses a nuclear weapon. There is no question that he was heading in that direction and would have succeeded with the help they were getting from France and others.

This post-cold war world that we live in isn't as simple as the good old days of the USSR. ITs not as black and white - not so easy to understand. But I believe things will be fine despite a lot of politicians prophesying a new dark age. It aint gonna happen.

Some politicians were convinced that the war with Afghanistan would be another Vietnam but it was swift and the loss of life was extremely minimal. They were wrong then and they will be proved wrong now. One would almost believe that some politicians would gain from a more bloody conflict.

Dispicable.

Anyway, Punker, throw on some 'Minor Threat' and relax with a clove and cold a cold one. It's gonna be alright.

Oh. And let's pray for peace.

Now that it started moments ago, I just want to wish our men and women in the US, British, Australian and other numerous national armed services the best of luck in coming home quickly and victorious. I pray equally that the Iraqi people can finally be rid of the tyranny and suffering of Saddam that they have deserved for so long, and that one more evil menace is so deservingly eliminated.

Amen Cool Yank, Amen.

The war in Iraq has started. I find it ironic that in Bush's speech he said this would not be war of half strikes and half measures, when his first attack was a half-measure strike. I honestly think that this war will last for a while, a long while.

Amen, Cool Yank.

I just read the following:

"Two-thirds of Iraq's conscript army are ready to surrender without a fight, according to US military sources in Kuwait."

Hit KPR for link to full report.

I'm praying this will be short, Observer. I still think it will.

Amen, to you all

Soon we can put this iraqi conflict into the volumes of history, as a lesson to be pondered. With whatever view you look at it from.

Some foreigners hate America because they are jealous of our wealth, power, accomplishments, and technology. Foreigners are always waiting to find SOMETHING wrong with America.

oh i love the patronizing KPR, though i take it all in good fun, i dont smoke, i dont drink, and i cant stand minor threat, but i love bad religion as much as you may think so, i have family and friends fighting this very second, and i worry about them and all soldiers very much, i support our troops, and anyone who has to carry out such a horrible task. the reason i play the "antagonist" is to keep america on its toes, yes it is a good place, but its not perfect and it wont ever be, and as americans we must strive to do what is right for all, and not just our own interests. and by the way, i wanted to say that i respect all of you for your opinions, i think it is very admirable to stand up for what you believe in,there are so many people who never even give a second thought to anything, let alone what is going on in their world. it seems like we all want the same end, we just believe in different means, peace to all of you

Shock and Awe, wow all I have to say is don't mess with the U.S.A.

I hate 'Minor Threat' too- Just a band I pulled out of the hat from my brief punk stage in the late 80's.

I was so pissed off to hear a comment from an anti-war protester in the UK. She was asked the usual question thrown at the protesters: "do you support our troops?"

She responded, "NO! Our British troops are murdering criminals".

Somebody give that woman a good crucifyin' like would be done if she had made the same statements against Hussein in Iraq. What a fool. And whats up with these protestors throwing rocks and rebar at police in SanFrancisco?

Has anyone clued in that most of these protests are organized by either 'ANSWER' a front name for the World Workers Union, a pro communist pro castro, pro North Korea, pro Hussein organization? and many other large protests are organized by the same anti-West, anti-capitalist people who were protested the WTO?

Peter Jennings was interviewing a young protest leader from Cali whos been getting a lot of attention lately, and asked him what he says to those who ask about Husseins brutality. He said "the US sold weapons to Iraq in the 80's."

What?

At least its 3-1 Pro War and most of the protestors think they're only protesting a war.

What really breaks my heart is seeing these bandaged kids crying and screaming in Bahgdad hospitals with cameras shoved in thier faces taking propagana photos for Al Jazeer. If Saddam wants victoms for propaganda - he'll get 'em if he has to produce them himself. Anyone who believes anything that regime puts out is one hell of an idiot.

Anyway- I'm sorry to taint the otherwise fresh and kind mood the latter entries have shared. Yo, keepin' it real, Y'all.

i agree, many protesters are for the most part ignorant to their cause, at least to the point where they should know that they dont know enough to support it. i think the point of a protest is not whos funding/organizing it or why they are, but that they are for peace. as dicky barett of the mighty mighty bosstones, an anti war band said "i support our troops as they are risking their live to serve their country, but i dont support this fucking war."not only iraqi television is showing children women and other civilians being injured, CNN and ABC have reported that regretfully, civiallian causalties are amassing. and there is no way that they could not be, cites are being taken over, building bombed, not on purpose do we aim for homes or public buildings, but its an urban area and we are not perfect. the opinion of many american iraqis is that they would be grateful if The US/BRITAIN freed their country, but many believe it will jsut be trading one trouble for another, out of the fryer and into the frying pan so to speak. i think its hypocritical that people protesting violence are participating in it. at least i hope the world learns alot from this experience, and that it turns out for the best- peace

Maybe you are just trying to antagonize here but how simple minded can you be?('you' being generic term for those with your mentality) I wish this world was as rosy and happy as you wish it were. You live in a free nation and could just as well piss on that freedom - you are one of many who have never had to fight or suffer for the freedom you take for granted.

There really are some in the world who dont have it as easy as 'dicky' and suffer in a horribly oppressive regime. I mean what the hell does dicky have to worry about? Getting to the show ontime and sing though a cloud of crack smoke? will he make it through all the ho's in time to grab a snack and get enough sleep for the next show? What makes a rock star any authority on anything but a good judge of bad crack?

The bottom line is they really dont give a rats ass about some 'rag head' children in Iraq who suffer Saddams ills and dont want to anything to damper the nifty sweet marxist ideals.

When was the last time you went out in the street and watched a female teacher shot in the street for alleged prostitution? DO you care at all about those being murdered by your blessed savior Saddam? Can he do no wrong? You have lived in a world where your freedom has never been threatened outside of being grounded in 6th grade for not cleaning your room.

Get some damn perspective. Get out of your sunny little box and open your eyes.

By the way the last time the Mighty Mighty Bosstones were in my area was at an outdoor 'NORML' legalize marijuana concert. Yeah, dicky's had it rough.

I need to read a little closer, Punker. I sped read your entry and missed a few of your points. I didnt mean to group you with dicky. You seem to be trying to see both sides of this. Good for you.

Now, I'm just going to go pop a valium and start smoking.

KPR, you may be too quick to judge, yes i do know what its like to fight for freedom, every day. as much as id like the life in the sunny box, thats not what ive got, but i work with what i have. i know all too well that this world is not rosy and happy dont judge a man till youve walked a mile in his shoes, or somthing like that- anyways actually my perspective on the world as a whole is pretty pessimistic, i say we all destroy ourselves sometime before the year 2500.and KPR, i think its unfair of you to say that people who want peace support saddam and his murderous ways, at least the way i look at it, there has to be a better way, sleeper agents, assassinaion, specil ops maybe, but all out war on a country is a bit extreme. Humanity has ceased to progress so to speak, were still fighting killing hating discriminating and destroying, not any country in particular, but all countries. Charles Darwin's theory of the surrvival of the fittest for the most part has no application to todays societies. people have (especially in wealthier countries) become nothing but consumers. taking and taking and rarely giving back to society. they are so dependant. on another but equally depressing note, Iraqui soldiers have been "fake" surrendering only to attack when coalition guards are down. this is disgusting, not only a violation of the genevea convention, but a sign of a truely repulsive human being. I have no way of knowing what is going on besides a friend that i have in iraq and the media. i am certain, however, that all sides have done dishonerable actions. "nobodys right if everybodys wrong" damn it i wish this would be over. peace for christ sake

an in dickys defense(not that i give a fuck) pretty much all americans, in fact people anywhere in a wealthy democracy dont have many worries, besides making it to their tennis matches on time, or watching their favorate reality show. but that does not make them ignorant, or apathetic to the happenings in the world(at least not in definition)many people in prosperous nations care greatly about humanitarian aid, as well as social justice as there are oganizations like amnesty international, REd cross, various missionary organizations, and many more. for example, in high school, one year our spanish class collected around $12,000 for La RIca Playa community in Peru, we did student exchanges, wrote letters, and sent groups to go help them with job skills, basic education, and also physical labor like building houses and working feilds, it was a great experience. and made me realize that i have a responsibility, because of the position which i was given in life(free, wealthy country, education, parents, physicaly fit and mentaly strong) to help where i can, and even where i cant, its unfair, and it hurts that you say that i, and many other people dont care.

Yeah like I said earlier I missed the gist of your earlier comment and I certainly didnt want to make you out as one that doesnt care.

But I gotta say peace comes at a price sometimes. Lack of conflict doesnt automatically equal peace. How do you define peace? Is peace knowing that if you say anything remotely negative about your president you could be shot in the street? The "stars" like Michael Moore have implied that Iraq was at peace before the US and British forces attacked. I'm so serious here - Michael Moore would certainly be a dead man if he had spoke against Saddam in Iraq the way he spoke about Bush.

Is that peace?

It hurts to get a shot of anti-biotic but a little pain can end in a healthy body. I know it sounds crass to say that the death of inocents in Iraq is like a shot - but in the bigger scope of things they won't have died in vain.

I'm sorry to read that you are such a defeatist. Anyone that follows the teaching of Darwin unquestionably will be pesimistic and frankly hopeless. Personally, I think that believing Darwin verbatim takes more faith than to believe in the wonders of creation.

Anyway - cheer up. You have a lot to be thankful for.

who cares, we'll al be dead in 4 billion years anyway,

America is not an evi empire nor is it totaly self serving, but it can be naive when it comes to world politics,

I'm from the UK and I belive that europe functions better in respect to world events, because we are made of many independent countries with a common and close history our differences are our strength, it tempers extreme points of view and gives us a diverse and strong culture,

it does'nt always work(the French are always French),

but America could learn from Europe,

who would have thought that such a diverse group of countires could function with out borders,

when you take into account our violent past,

America should start listing to the world and stop trying to change it.

I am not anti-america I have many good friends in the US who are good intelligent people but they are Americans not citizens of world wide community,

america needs to wise up and Europe needs to loosen up,

Talking does change things, Europe is proof of that,

America should start listening to the rest of the world? We did. And what we heard was fear, greed, rage, insanity, and that never ending self-adulation from the EU. The EU is a remarkerable acheivement but get a grip. Its been done 227 years ago in the US when several independent colonies came together and formed the U.S.

Your egocentric view of the world is narrow and arrogant. The EU's form of goverment is not automatically applicable in every world incident.

Please - get over yourselves.

If France and Germany wouldnt have ascted like such idiots and worked together with the rest of the world to show Saddam they we were serious we wouldnt be in a war now. The only reason they fought the war is that France is the number one importer to Iraq and Germany is the number 2. (FYI: Russia is no. 3 and China no. 4) Hit 'KPR' for link to list of facts.

Spoken like an American ....sigh.

I'm embarassed to be American sometimes.

I love my country but we ARE ignorant of the world.

How many of us even know the NAME of the prime minister of Canada who is right next door to us? or that he's referred to as a prime minister and not a president. A lot of America is filled with simpletons.

It's time to start listenign.

So Deb, fill me in on what "they" said that we didn't hear.

i saw this comment that some one made below

"You twisted Brit! America is much nicer than the British Empire ever was. Is civilizing half of the world a nice way of saying you destroyed native culture? Oh yeah, were the Zimbabweans English speaking when you arrived? HA!"

i don't like the british to much either but were the american indians speaking english when you arrived in america. Or the slaves that you plucked out of africa. HA!

I pray a quick end to the war and suffering for the US, British and Aulstralian troops and the long oppressed people of Iraq.

It's been great - glad I stopped by but it sounds like the discussion is over and we're back to random hit-and-run statements that are going nowhere.

Thanks 'JBM' for letting me in on the talk for a little while. By the way, I did actually read the Solon cartoon that started this whole beast.

God Bless America! God bless the U.K.!

Kung Pow(pao) Riblets

MO. USA

Would the US military stop killing british troops please

it's becoming anoying,

I really don't understand why both sides are flaming each other so. I've always viewed France, the UK, Turkey, etc. as our allies and friends. And I still do. Okay, so many nations have differing views than the US government. This is a good thing. I mean, if everyone agreed with the US, I'd probably move out of it! Look, what makes us truly 'civilized' is recognizing the value in our differences. Whether one supports the war or not, we should always embrace open communications and honest opinions from our friends. If you don't have honesty, what do you have?

"One in Three French Back Saddam" - Times Online

"France wants UN in Drivers seat" (in Iraq reconstruction) Malay Mail, Malaysia

France, my dear friends, can kiss my American ass!

French anti-war protesters have desecrated a cross at a First World War British military cemetery. Slogans were sprayed in red across the base of a large cross marking the entrance of the cemetery in Etaples, near Le Touquet on the Channel coast.

One said: "Dig up your rubbish, it is contaminating our soil."

Another said: "Rossbeefs go home. Saddam will win and he will make you bleed."

France, my dear friends, can kiss my American ass!

U lot r stupid. In the war of Independence we gave up on u loosers cos we thought ' Oh why do we want a stupid country like that?' and they were right in giving up. If america are so Anti-Slavery then why did the agree to the triangle in the first place? America look at Britain these days and think what a bunch of loosers! You might have all of your companys and money but do you have what it takes to beat Britain. In WWII we WERE NOT begging u we saved ur butt! cos ur special forces couldnt do it themselves. U tried to make it out as if u were the heros but u were not! I am british (obvioulsy) and I say things like... If you've got the english language then explain these -->

1. color = colour

2. soccer = football ( we had it first )

If it werent for people like chris columbus were would u be today?? I want to put an end to this argument!

-- Conclusion --

America are rich, but only because Britain support them and they have a high population! Americans like to think they speak English but instead they dont! Britain and america are the SAME agreed? if not then I am ashamed to know that my country and americans cant be civilised! You both say that you are bettter than each other but look at you now? YOU ARE ARGUING and that my friend is not something to be proud of Britain and America rule this world! Oh yeah comparing America to Britain is stupid think about this (America --> Europe) its only fair! Your a continent were a continent . NO MORE ARGUING AGREE TO BE CIVILISED

Say 'hi' to your fourth grade teacher for me and ask her if perhaps Christopher Columbus wasn't from Spain. Personally I love Britain. With the exception of 'The Mirror' subscribers, your not a bad lot. At least UK and Spain had enough sense to be on the right side of the Iraq issue. Instead of associating yourselves with the shame and complete absence of character as displayed by France and Germany (once again). In the future, history lessons will not be about the courage and pride of France standing against imperialist America. It will once again tell the tale of a pathetic moral wasteland laying down to a ruthless, murderous, oppressive dictator. In fact supporting him. There are already countless stories from Iraqis about the torcher and murder of their people by Saddams henchmen. Even the four journalists who were recently released witnessed first-hand the brutality against Iraqs own people. France will be used in the same sentence to described Saddams coalition. It's just shameful.

fourth grade teacher...and who said Chris columbus wasnt from spain? And why do people think America is so good? One question which is better Europe - (think of Italy,France and the Canary islands + not forgetting spain and russia! the united kingdom is the best country in the world... U would probably say that if you lived here (and be honest!) America might be big but is it as good as people make out? Prove it!

I don't think that being proud of your country or homeland means that you think you are better than everyone else. Most nations have plenty of things to be proud of. You see success of America as some kind of threat to Europe - which is rediculous. Why don't you (you being EU in general) stop whining and just go about your business. If you are as great as you say in your current state, the truth will present itself to the world. Words are cheap. I dont think I have ever had a conversation with anyone in memory here in the US, comparing us to Europe. I have known some to hate France but my father for example, loves Germany. He loves to talk about his four year stay in Germany and his visits to Paris and Italy. You have the wrong idea about what Americans think of Europe.

Now your actions like Frances refusal to exhibit any courage in recent months, speaks for itself. If you act like an idiot, chances are people will call you an idiot. Thus France is an idiot.

I THINK THE WAR IN IRAQ IS JUSTIFIABLE AS IT WILL SHOW ALL THE ROGUE NATIONS NOT TO MESS WITH THE BEST. THAT IS THE UK AND THE USA AND ALL THE CIVALISED COUNTRIES WHO WANT FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND TO LIVE AS HUMANS NOT CAGED ANIMALS LIKE THE REGIME THAT IS IN PLACE IN SOME OF THE MIDDLE EASTERN COUNTRIES. GOD BLESS AMERICA AND THE UK AND THE UN.

Wow !I have read all of this with great interest. I am an American which means right away I'm hated. Sobeit. I really do not care. All I know is that I agree that all people should have a chance to live free in peace and harmony. Im not a liberal or a conservative. All the anti Americans- so do you feel that 9-11 was diserved? Because of America's "greed " that 3,000 people deserved to die? Well there were 35 countries who lost someone in that horrible day. Yeah America does have it's problems. Name one country that doesn't. America doesnt not hate Europe. Even after 9-11 we are still humane with the Arab countries. America was made from Immigrantes looking for a better life hmm even today people are still coming here for a better life. I ask you how many Iraqi's can open up a business without permission and have it called whatever they want, and not Saddams bait and tackle store. Why do more Europeans come here in groves year after year to visit if you hate us so much? Why not stay away. We are not Egotistical. American people are hard workers. Yes we are fat! There are fat people in Europe also. How about this- I have an idea - We stay away from each other. ok no more trading and no more agreements and no more finacal help. Ok so when another country gets invaded or needs help we will not be able to be there, because we are Egotists and zealots and braggots, ok so When France and Gremany and even our allie England need help you'll have to handle it your self because Europe as always been there for each other. Kind of like the UN. Sorry but like you said you dont need America - and your right you dont. Europe is made up of 30 or more countries and America is only 1. So I say adeu to you all and May God bless you and your countries. America has left and wont return.......

Hi I would just like to add that Im not Anti Europe. Hell I'd love to see Europe and my Great Grandparents were from Lithuania. I just wish that we could unit. Both our countries have great interests with each other. and we could learn alot from each other. But all Im saying is that any country that thinks that America is the only one with poverty and Aids and corrutption should seriously look in the mirror. Ok thats all Im going to say. Im an American and we are tough smart loving forgiving and remindful of others. So i will let others speak there minds, Just be prepared to be able to answer what you question. Thank You

I think the is too much national pride involved in the last few comments,The UK and the US are more like each other than most would like to admit,

as for difference in spelling, the majority of UK and US citizens could'nt spell to save their lives me included,

so we both fuck up the English language so what.

at the end of the day you have to look beyond pettie squabbles and take the more balanced view(the french thing excepted),

Europe the US and most of the world has embraced democracy and dispite it's failings it is the most logical way for a society to advance,

oppression and poverty is not somthing that democracy's are associated with, so although I'm not in favour of this war I hope that now it is well under way the people of Iraq will in the future have a government that puts it's citizens best interest first,

and as for the french well it's difficult to defend them,

I can relate to germany's position but France has commited a few questionable acts in the last few years(rainbow warrior) and A-bomb tests,

I think they just like to make a noise so the world still knows they still here,

it would be nice to here from any french citizens on the site,

just to get their prespective.

A German general, on the night before Germany was to invade France during World War II, said to his assistant, "Make sure my red jacket is laid out for me for tomorrow. That way, if I get shot, my men will not know it and they will continue to fight."

Meanwhile, across the border in France, a French general said to his assistant, "Make sure my brown pants are laid out for me for tomorrow...."

Bush and Saddam aren't that different. Just like Saddam, Bush: does not listen to the requests of the UN, His administration uses propaganda to control his people, He has and seeks Weapons of Mass destruction, As Governor he ordered the death of over 200 people for breaking his laws ! He rose to power under questionable circumstances.Oil is his friend.

American/UK bombs in the free press are called liberators, Iraqi bombs are called terrorist weapons!!!

If Canada,Britain and Russia invaded America, claming it was liberating the American people from the tyranny of the Bush administration! "Would the American people Clap and Cheer" NO and if you, your friends or family in America tried to defend their homes from the liberators and were then called "terrorists and extremists" "Evil" or "The enemy" by the rest of the world would you feel outraged.YES! Saddam was a dictator who committed terrible humanitarian crimes! but the people who lost their lives weren't, Do not fall for mindless propaganda, and remember there is NO PLACE LIKE HOME no matter where in the world you are!

If everyone new all the facts there would be no-one left willing to pull the trigger.

WAR is a business, If it is not needed then we have to close up shop, that is why the world is a mess! From WAR .....The Media profits, The Weapons Manufacturers profit, all the way down to the contract plumbers who fix the toilets profit.....THE BEAUTY OF CAPITALISM!!!

MAKES ME SICK

Check out this excerpt from a Washington Post article:

"Schroder, French President Jacques Chirac and Russian chief Vladmir Putin are due to sketch out their vision of Iraq's future in St. Petersburg Friday.

The three leaders, who have led Europe's anti-war brigade since the start of the stand-off between Washington and Baghdad, want the United Nations -- rather than the United States -- to control Iraq after the fighting ends."

Who the hell are they to sketch out anything? With any luck, Bush will do what the US did after WWII in Germany and Japan and rebuild Iraq the right way. Since when did the UN know how to do anything? How did they help Rawanda? Why are UN troops still in the former Yugoslavia after all these years?

And France makes me so sick. What a disgusting nation. GROSS!! Those people are just sick! Little weenies, lips pursed, pinky lifted as they drink the blood of countless Iraqis who died for thier greed.

Mark S - there are still holdouts of true Communism in the world such as North Korea that would gladly take you in. I'll help you pack. You're a mindless follower of Marxism. You moron. 10 bucks you work at a job, right? Damn capitalism!

Communist dictators get fat on the labor and suffering of the people. Your a dick.

OK, we're coming up on the year anniversary of this poor little stupid post (tomorrow), and after the past couple remarks, I feel compelled to say if this ad hominem stuff continues, I am going to just pull the plug on the comments here. No matter how strongly you feel about this situation, (there's an understatement) there is no need to call names. This page was actually beginning to vaguely resemble something like a discussion recently; now it seems to be degrading back into simple name-calling. Stop it now or I turn off comments.

Hahaha, Saddam and Bush are common in that they know the UN is a debating society with no credibility and is utterly helpless enforcing them without US help. It's about time we punted that club of dictators out of America. Europe is so full of shit when it comes to the UN. They practically worship it because they'd rather have the US enslaved by it. And a German official had the audacity to say that the US would crawl back to the UN. Ha, Euros are such pussies.

Please take this message the way I mean it. It is WRONG for inocents to die. But who's fault is it? The USA's who spent there young men's and women's blood because others would not. I don't think so. The debt belongs to those who believe that war is never nessesary. To those who believed that Hitler was honest. To those that as long as the the suffering in the world was someone else then... WHO CARES?! Remember it was the Germans who started WWII and the French who let it continue. Who are you to say what is right and what is wrong. The French think "It's there Country let them deal with it... We all know what happens when we listen to the "FRENCH"...Yavul mine KOMF!

To all,

This is from a fourteen year Vet. of the United States Air Force. I wish just once you "Gentlemen would handle this bullshit by your selfs. It get a bit old when we are the only ones that say's " Let's Make A deal!!!!

This is crap! The people on this website had some conversation actually happening when some other posters came to start mindlessly insulting each other again. JBM and KPR were right on this issue. If you can't have a civilized conversation then SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!

It seems the anti-war protesters have protested themselves into irrelevancy. The mask anti-war mask has been removed and the ugly hate mongering anti-Bush face has been revealed. This goes for both California and Europe which are one and the same politically. My only hope now is that they keep it up for a few more years so as to sew up Bush's re-election.

Even whats-his-name, Susan Serandons squeeze sounds like a big loser. Whining and moaning like the pathetic man that he is. (I loved him in Shawshank Redemption by the way). So is there any way that the leftists of EU and USA can redeem themselves?

second sentence - ignore the first 'mask' there.

No Goddamned comparison for true patriotism as illustrated by vets of WWII.There is no comparison.Go ahead and die if you're that stupid, but I wish you'd have died for a real cause not a fabricated one.We need you, including my life,if the real war should come.

My father was a Radar Technition in Guam, when they dropped FatBoy and LittleMan.The H-bombs on Hiroshima,Japan. He had 5 other brothers(my uncles)in WWII.Dating back to the Revolutionary War,my heritage has always been made up of Generals,Captians,Luet.,Sarg.,to Foot Soldiers.I am extremely proud of them, especially for their intelligence and rolls in helping create the America we now enjoy, and live in. I've always been told that I and the future generations have no idea what they did,or represented. My father was keenly intelligent. He was not easily impressed by words spoken by our leaders. He always said,You have to weigh them by the facts, otherwise your headed for trouble. The government(in America)is only as powerful as we let them. The primary reason we went to war was because they bombed Pearl Harbor. He said,I was eighteen yrs.old and walking down the street, when they announced our Nation declared war.He said,"I knew then,I was gone,so I volunteered". "One had a better chance of going where he wanted then.It wasn't until England had ask us(America)to step in and help, that we did.We didn't, until we were attacked. The world, and Japan said,"we woke up a sleeping Giant".Germany came within an ace of whipping our(America's)ass--the whole world as a matter of fact. We've never stepped out unless challenged. My God,if challenged,We would meet the Goddamned needs. No question. He'd say,Do you understand?" I understood my Dad,or else. I think that to compare WWII to Iraq is a GODDAMNED insult! We are not at World War! Thank God! For those who may say (the may sayers) we will never have another war as that(the previous)is full of it.It is possible.I personally hope not.My father said,"the churches were more full than they'd ever been"Everyone had to pull together to reach the common goal"(to survive). We were on the eve of destruction on a daily basis. My aunt,as a child, saved aluminum from gum rappers, until she had a ball the size of a soft ball and sent it in----to give you an idea of the dedication that was given to the cause. There was rations on everything--from food to per say aluminum, etc.People cared about education. They wanted to learn all they could. I am sorry to say that this generation falls shamefully short. Why couldn't another day have lived in imfamy,as it did then, when the twin towers fell? I must give my roots credit, being a Butler,Johnston,Lynch, and Harris.,along with another long line of simular last names including the Dubois FRENCH at that

Thanks, decendant of the Guam radar technician. I can see sorta where your coming from but even though you said it 12 times, I don't totally agree. WWII was the result of a world letting a madman go unchecked. The League of Nations made numerous resolutions against Germany, Italy and Japan but never acted on them.

Sound familiar?

What if the world would have acted much sooner to keep that bastard Hitler in check? Personally, I'm damn glad someone finally acted proactively instead of sitting around with thier head in the sand in some dilusional "peace".

WWII was an incredible war and I would never compare Iraq to it. The boys fighting then did incredible things with the technology they had to work with. However, our boys (and girls) kicked some serious ass in Iraq. You can't deny that.

hey mr blasco,

why don't you just pack your belongings and head in any direction until you are no longer in the U.S.A.

?

bye bye, scoot, go, git!

The United States of America will fall just like all evil empires. This might be soon(hopefully) and it might not.The Roman Empire and Nazism fell and so will the United States.

The concerning point about the comments on this site are that people are so extremist in the belief that they have the right view on everything and see no middle ground. I too love my country and I too believe I live in the best country on earth but unlike the majority of those who post comments I don't believe that this makes anyone else’s view less right or less real. For I can only imagine they feel the same about their country as I do about mine. People will inevitably put their own interpretation on events, perhaps before one spouts what they have been fed in school/uni/media they should endeavour to find out for themselves by researching varying accounts of events that took place. But at the end of the day it is history and while past events of the world got us to where we are today its important to remember that every action by every country in wartime and in peacetime had/ has consequences sometimes we are just picking the lesser of two evils and sometimes we are choosing wrongly. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but not something we can use to judge past behaviour with.

And on the war stance my Dad too fought in a war, one that contributed to history in a way that is seldom recognised. But it gives me no great pleasure to announce it to the world as if I have some divine right to either my country or freedom rather it gives me an immense personal pride in one man I get to call my father because I know I could not be such a hero. War does not make countries great or leaders powerful, it makes everyday heroes and hopefully, if war is necessary, it makes the world a better place. And not because it is being run by a new system that the majority of the world believes is right but because it is being run by the people who must live within its borders. So nobody wins – people just adjust – even though many leaders would like to think he or she did/ does and even though many citizens, focused on their nation as being the right model for the world, think it’s about them. It’s never supposed to be about just one person. It is not about you.

(Perhaps that final comment stems from George Bush’s comment pertaining to Saddam trying to kill his “daddy” I don’t know, does that give me the right to kill/ capture any North Vietnamese army who participated in the Vietnam War should I one day become an influential world leader)

What I do know is that people have a right to hold their opinion but do not forget in the world perfect information does not exist and at any point in time new information may arise, quite possibly at times enough to sway your opinion to the opposite view. Your stance is not a predetermined outcome it is changeable. One day perhaps the ability to adapt and change, demonstrating the maturity to learn and grow will be an intrinsic characteristic in all world leaders.

And on the original posting by jbm: I don't like war. I don't like the fact that I can't choose to not fund it, and it makes me very nervous when dissent gets called anti-Americanism. Nobody tells me what to think. Period.

Then I hope you were one of the few Americans who actually bothered to vote at your elections. For a country with such strongly held pride where everyone knows the pledge and the national anthem and all their constitutional rights, it seems apathy over exactly who controls such power is rife. You could have chosen not to fund it depending on how you voted…if you voted. And just like you, it makes the rest of the world very nervous when they disagree with certain American policies and they get called anti-American. Seems America tries to tell them what to think on occasion too. And in a round about way I guess that is somewhat of a self-fulfilling prophecy. If someone tried to tell me what to think I might begin to dislike them but that doesn’t mean they were right all along even though that may be the line they choose to portray. It is always about the propaganda war.

Well,I personally despise my country. The United States media and government brainwashing hasn't worked on me(so far).I would do anything to get out of this country but I don't have any money.

Australian, I[m going to harp on your insinuation that Bush is illegitamate. Many in America take thier right to vote for granted thats for sure. But let me get the record straight on the imfamous Bush-Gore election. Many in Western Florida (panhandle) decided not to vote after National Pubic Radio and a number of major networks declared that Fla. had chosen Algore. You see, the panhandle of Fla is one hour behind the rest of Fla. It is well known that western fla is predominately conservative - certainly more than the eastern portion. It was in fact a quiet scandle that the heavily left-leaning press had fibbed a bit to discourage the right from getting out to vote.

A number of states were called early for Gore which ended up going for Bush. The networks have pledged to hold thier tongue in future elections as they were good to do in the 2002 Congressional elections.

If more in the western portion of florida would have voted, Bush would have wrapped up the fla vote and there would have been no "scandle". By the way, independent groups such as the Associated Press counted the disputed ballots several times and concluded that Bush would have won anyway - whatever the court had decided. Also, we use the same type of punch ballot here in my district and you have to be a vegitable not to punch the hole through. It is clear that many tried to shove multiple ballots in at once and thus vote in duplicity. Also in StLouis for example, voting booths were erected in empty parking lots in heavy left-leaning ares of downtown and one StLouis judge held the elections open for 3 more hours which is illegal. Period.

The whole idea that it was an illegitamate election was false. Period. Get your facts straight. Don't beleive all the propaganda that your press puts out. I certainly dont believe all the swill that we are fed here in the US.

Hey, not everybody likes the US, but everyone respects it!!!!!!!

I don't respect the United States.

yo, check out my talent of jerking off upside down and cumming in my mouth, LOL. I even put crushed ice in my mouth so the cum freezes in my mouth, LOL, no joke.

That last message was not by me.Whoever wrote it is obviously a wonderful and intelligent human being.I am sorry I can't take credit for those beatiful words.

yo, sorry I hate to take credit for my well-organized and thoughtful comments... now where was I? Oh ya, curse the evils of American media and society! And curse the evils of Disney's Little Mermaid. Now what are trying to do to me? You think it's funny for a 45 year old man to go to high school everyday carrying the "Little Mermaid's" lunchbox, backpack, and matching umbrella? I even skip gym class every day just so I can rub raw fish on my penus. You bastards!!! Look at what you turned me into!!!

Well, the idiocy of the past few comments makes this as good a time as any to turn them off on this page. It's been real, kids.
